The Honeywell FP280 is a flood detection probe that connects to a flood sensor, such as the Honeywell 5821 or the Honeywell 470-12. It is not an actual sensor, and it cannot really do anything on its own. But when used as a probe with a corresponding flood detector, it works very well. Attached to the Honeywell FP280 is a 16.5 foot cable, and it is possible to replace it with a longer cable if you require something even longer. Overall, we really like the Honeywell FP280, and we give it a 5 Star rating.
There are many things we appreciate a Honeywell FP280. For one, it is easy to connect to a compatible flood sensor, making it good for DIY users. The accessory is quite versatile, as it can be used with nearly any flood detector that has a compatible input available. The 16.5 is pretty long for this type of device, and the option of swapping out a cable is nice too. This can be very useful if the original cable ever becomes damaged, or if you just need something longer. As with most Honeywell products, the Honeywell FP280 has a great build quality. A resistor is attached so that your system can be alerted if someone tries to tamper with this sensor.
There are not many downsides to the Honeywell FP280. The biggest drawback is that this sensor really cannot do anything on its own. It is only useful if it is used with a compatible flood sensor. Also, many sensors do not need a probe like the Honeywell FP280, as they already have a probe included. And some users prefer a built-in probe, as opposed to an external probe like the Honeywell FP280. But these downsides are very minor, and we still give 5 Stars to the Honeywell FP280.
Good: Easy to Connect, Versatile, Long Cord, Can Swap Cord Out, Good Build Quality, Resistor
Bad: Useless On Its Own, Not Every Flood Detector Needs One
Bottom Line: 5 Stars
