How Do I Enable Partitions on the IQ Panel 5 Alarm System?

To enable Partitions on the IQ Panel 5, swipe down and touch Settings, then Advanced Settings, and enter your Installer Code. Next, touch Installation, then Installer Settings, and enable the Partitions feature to create up to four separate areas you can each arm and disarm on their own.

About Enabling Partitions

Partitions let you split the IQ Panel 5 (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) into up to four separate areas that each arm and disarm independently, which is useful for a home with a guest suite, a business with separate departments, or any space you want to secure in sections. Enabling the feature is just the first step: it is a single toggle in the Installer Settings that turns the capability on for your security system. Once it is on, you assign sensors and user codes to specific partitions.

Partitions is disabled by default. Turning it on changes a few things on the panel: a lock screen is presented when the panel wakes, since the code entered determines which partition you are accessing, and the Screen Lock setting is automatically enabled. It is worth knowing that some features cannot be used while Partitions are enabled, including the Wellness Page, the Solar Page, and the Alarm.com Scenes icon, so enable Partitions only if you are sure you want to divide the system.

Before You Begin

The Partitions setting is in the Installer Settings, which require the Installer Code (1111 by default) or Dealer Code (2222 by default). The steps below use the Installer Code. This article covers turning the feature on; for the bigger picture of how partitions work and how to assign sensors and codes to each one, see our guide on what partitions are and how to set them up on the IQ Panel 5.

Tips

Enabling Partitions only turns the capability on; your sensors all stay in the default partition until you assign them, so plan to edit each sensor to place it in the right area afterward. Because enabling Partitions also forces Screen Lock on and disables features like the Wellness and Solar pages, it is best to decide up front whether a divided system is what you want. If you only have a guest area or in-law suite in mind, partitions are a great fit, but for most single households leaving this off keeps things simplest.

Enabling Partitions on the IQ Panel 5 lets you divide the system into separate, independently armed areas.
