Description

Honeywell has discontinued the GSMV and replaced it with the newer, more advanced, Honeywell GSMV4G cellular alarm communicator. All existing GSMV communicators are 2G cellular communicators and therefore will stop communicating by the end of 2016 as AT&T has announced that they will drop support of the 2G cellular network at that time. We urge everyone that has a GSMV to replace it with a new GSMV4G as soon as possible as certain areas of the country may see a drop in cellular service even before the 2016 sunset.

The Honeywell GSMV is an AlarmNet cellular alarm monitoring communicator that provides fast and reliable alarm communications for Honeywell security systems. As a member of the AlarmNet alternative alarm communications family, the GSMV will ensure your alarm signals are received by Alarm Grid’s central station even if you don’t have a traditional phone line. The cellular alarm communicator is an important security system upgrade even if you do have a traditional phone line because your phone line is exposed on the outside of your home and therefore is susceptible to line tampering. If an intruder were to cut your phone line before entering your home, your security system would detect the intrusion but the alarm signals would not reach the central monitoring station. The GSMV cellular alarm communicator provides a backup alarm communication path in the event your phone line is unavailable so that when the intruder cuts your phone line, the alarm signals will still be seen by the Alarm Grid operators.

Honeywell’s AlarmNet division has been the nationwide leader in alarm communications technology since 1986. The advanced AlarmNet network provides fast, secure and highly reliable alarm communications solutions making it a reliable alternative to standard and digital telephone lines for the transmission of your home security system’s alarm signals. AlarmNet is the security industry's only nationwide communications provider that delivers a complete range of options for supervised alarm signal transport applications. When your home security system detects an alarm, the GSMV cellular alarm monitoring communicator will transmit the alarm signal to Honeywell’s AlarmNet Network Control Center. This Network Control Center is essentially a large bank of servers that receive the alarm signals from AlarmNet alarm communicators and then route the alarm signals on to the appropriate central station. The AlarmNet state-of-the-art Network Control Center is fully redundant and monitored 24/7 to ensure that all AlarmNet communicators never experience an interruption in service. The AlarmNet servers also supervise all AlarmNet alarm communicators so that any interruption of service on the customers end is detected. If your AlarmNet cellular alarm communicator does not respond to the AlarmNet supervision check-in, the Alarm Grid central station will be able to call you to notify you that your security system is not currently communicating properly. With the GSMV cellular alarm communicator, this should only happen during an extended power outage or if your cellular signal strength is weak. As soon as the problem is resolved, the GSMV will automatically restore alarm communications.

The Honeywell GSMV provides cellular alarm communications for Honeywell wired security systems using the ECP terminals of your alarm control panel. A simple 4-wire connection between the GSMV and your Honeywell alarm control panel is all that is needed to connect the cellular communicator to your home security system. The GSMV is powered by a 16.5VAC, 40VA transformer and also has its own 6V, 3.1Ah backup battery which are both included.

The GSMV AlarmNet cellular alarm monitoring communicator not only provides your security system with an alternative communication path to a traditional phone line, but it also allows you to access the Total Connect interactive service. The Total Connect service allows you to remotely arm or disarm your security system from any web browser. You can even download a free application for your iPhone®, iPad®, Blackberry® or Android™ device to control your home security system from anywhere. You can also setup your security system to send you instant email and/or text message notifications through the Total Connect service. These notifications are great for alarm signals that don’t require actual police dispatch but are still important for you to see immediately.
