How Do I View Alerts and Alarms on the IQ5 NS Alarm System?
The IQ5 NS has no display and no Message Center. To view alerts and alarms, use the Alarm.com app or a connected IQ Remote PG wireless keypad, which shows the same alert history through a completely different kind of interface than an on-panel display would ever be able to offer.
Why the IQ5 NS Has No Message Center
The IQ5 NS (available in AT&T LTE and Verizon LTE) is a screenless panel, so the on-panel Message Center found on the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, with its Contact, Video Tutorials, Alerts/Alarms, and Messages sections, doesn't exist here. There's simply no screen to display it on. This isn't a missing feature so much as a natural consequence of the panel's compact, display-free design.
The underlying alert data, low battery warnings, alarm activations, tamper alerts, power failures, and supervision failures, is still generated by the system. It just surfaces through a different interface than an on-panel Message Center.
How to View Alerts and Alarms on the IQ5 NS
1. Open the Alarm.com app on your phone. This is the primary way most IQ5 NS households view system alerts and history.
2. Navigate to the account's activity or event history. This shows the same underlying alert types generated by the panel: low battery, power failure, tamper, and alarm events, each with a timestamp.
3. Alternatively, check a connected IQ Remote PG wireless keypad if one is paired to your system. An IQ Remote has its own display and can show alerts locally, functioning similarly to a Message Center for whichever partition it's assigned to.
Common Entry Types You'll See
The alert categories themselves are the same as on the other panels, just accessed differently. Low battery alerts indicate when a sensor or the panel's own backup battery needs replacement soon. Power failure alerts appear if the panel loses AC power and switches over to battery backup. Sensor trouble or supervision alerts indicate a wireless sensor has stopped communicating with the panel. Alarm history entries show past alarm events with their exact timestamp, useful for reconstructing what happened during or after an actual alarm on your security system.
Notification Settings Worth Reviewing
Since the IQ5 NS has no on-panel alert list to casually glance at, it's worth spending a few minutes in the Alarm.com app's Notifications section making sure alerts you care about, like low battery or power failure, are set to push to your phone or email rather than only appearing in an activity log you might not check regularly. This is a bigger deal on the IQ5 NS than on the display-equipped panels, since there's no passive way to notice a new alert just by walking past the panel. Active monitoring service is required to receive these notifications through the app.
Why Checking This Regularly Helps
Most people only check for alerts after something obviously goes wrong, like a siren going off or a sensor visibly malfunctioning. But the alert history in the Alarm.com app often flags smaller issues well before they become bigger problems, a sensor with a battery that's been slowly weakening for weeks, or a brief power blip that switched the panel to battery backup without anyone noticing. Making a habit of glancing through this history every so often, even without any obvious trigger, helps you catch these smaller issues while they're still easy to fix, rather than discovering a dead sensor battery only when that sensor fails to trigger during an actual event.
How This Compares to the Other Panels' Message Center
On the IQ Panel 5 and IQ5 Hub, the Message Center's other sections, Contact and Video Tutorials, offer things like your monitoring provider's phone number or built-in instructional videos playable directly on the panel. Since the IQ5 NS has no screen for any of that, contact information and instructional support are things you'd look up through the Alarm.com app or directly with your monitoring provider instead. The core alert and alarm data itself, though, is functionally the same across every panel in the family, it's just presented through whichever interface matches that panel's design.
The IQ5 NS has no on-panel Message Center, but the same alert and alarm history is available through the Alarm.com app or a paired IQ Remote on the IQ5 NS.
