Description

The DSC AC-100 Acuity Glass Break Detector is a hardwired sensor that is designed to monitor glass windows or protective glass casings inside a home or business. The device has an omnidirectional microphone that listens for the sound of breaking glass within the protection area.

The core of the DSC AC-100 is an advanced microprocessor-based glass break sensor that receives input from an omnidirectional microphone. The sensor's processor is smart enough to distinguish between the sound of breaking glass and other loud, or high-pitched sounds. The device is appropriate for monitoring plate, float, tempered, wired, and laminated glass. It can monitor glass from a distance of up to 25 feet away. The AC-100 should be mounted on a wall as close to the protected glass as possible. It should not be mounted on the same wall as the glass that is to be protected.

The DSC AC-100 features an LED that can be enabled for alarm memory. This is helpful when multiple glass break detectors are wired to the same zone input. After an alarm on the glass break zone, the alarm memory LED will indicate which glass break detector caused the alarm. To enable the alarm memory LED set the Jumper J2 to the ON position. When alarm memory LED latching is enabled, to reset the detector after an alarm, power will need to be removed from the detector momentarily. This can be accomplished using a relay or trigger on most alarm panels.

Curtains, blinds, and other window coverings can absorb and mute the sound of breaking glass. For this reason, be sure to mount the DSC AC-100 according to the installation instructions, and properly test the glass break sensor using a compatible glass break simulator. The DSC AFT-100 is the recommended glass break simulator, but it is no longer available from Alarm Grid. When testing, be sure that any window coverings are in place, as they will be when the sensor is being monitored, and test with the glass break simulator next to the protected glass.

Please note that this version of the Acuity Glass Break Detector is Form A, normally closed wiring only, and it does not have a tamper switch. There is also a version of this same sensor with a tamper switch, the DSC AC-101. A glass break detector with similar specifications, that can be mounted on the ceiling instead of a wall is also available. This is the DSC AC-500. This is also a Form A, normally closed wiring only detector with no tamper switch. There was a version of this detector with a tamper, the DSC AC-501, but it is no longer available.
