If you want some of the most flexible and easiest wiring to work with, then 22-gauge, 2-conductor might be your go-to selection. Most alarm systems are installed using 18-gauge or 22-gauge cabling. While 18 AWG is considered the gold standard, many people prefer 22 AWG instead. Since 22 AWG represents a thinner wire than 18 AWG, it is more flexible and easier to maneuver and work with. The trade-off is that as a thinner wire, 22 AWG wire cannot carry electrical current as far. But if you aren't conducting any lengthy wire runs, then this will not really come into play or consideration. That is why you will often find 22 AWG wiring in smaller homes and apartments.

The listings here are for 500-foot rolls of 22-gauge, 2-conductor alarm wiring. The 2-conductor portion of them name identifies that this cabling has two (2) smaller inner wires. This makes it best-suited for 2-wire connection devices. It can also be used with 4-wire connections, simply by doubling it up. Make sure to label your wires and keep proper track of them if you do decide to double-up your wire. Using 2-conductor wiring in that manner is perfectly fine, and it can save you the trouble of having to buy a 2nd type of wiring. If you don't wire things often or do any regular electrical work, then just keeping one type of wire around is fine. And 22-2 wiring is a great choice.

Each order on this page comes with 500 feet of alarm cabling. This is a good bit of wire for a DIY user, and it will likely last you awhile. We also have 1,000-foot rolls available on our site if you need more wiring. It is also important to note that stranded alarm wiring is listed here. By stranded wiring, we mean that the two smaller inner wires actually consist of many tiny wire strands, kind of like some strands of hair. This is opposed to solid core copper wiring, which just has one solid core, as opposed to multiple strands. Solid core wiring breaks more easily, while stranded wiring is generally seen as more forgiving and easier to work with. That is why we will often steer DIY users towards stranded wiring. Most professionals also prefer stranded wiring, but it can ultimately come down to preference once you're experienced enough. For a DIY user looking to set up a system for their home or small business, you really cannot go wrong with stranded wiring. And we are sure that you will find 22-gauge, 2-conductor wiring to be an excellent selection for your needs. We carry some great brands of wiring manufacturers, including Genesis and more. Your wiring needs are covered!
