Description

The Genesis 18-gauge, 2-conductor stranded cable is perfect for nearly any alarm system application. This represents the standard wire size for connecting hardwired security sensors with alarm control panels. Nearly any hardwired setup can benefit from some 18 AWG, 2-conductor wire.

The reason why 18-gauge wire is perfect for security systems is because it offers a nice combination of wiring flexibility and maximum run distance. If you don't have any wire around, then you really can't go wrong with 18 AWG. Additionally, you can also purchase this cabling to supplement any existing wires you have around. Slightly thicker or thinner wires can certainly be used. The important thing is that the connections are nice and secure.

The term "2-conductor" means that there are two smaller inner wires inside the main cable. Each inner wire is used to complete a physical connection. For most security sensors, a 2-conductor is the perfect accessory for the job. However, there are some security devices and accessories that use 4-conductor connections. These include keypads and 4-wire life-safety devices. You would have to use two separate 2-conductor cables for those applications, so using a 4-conductor cable is often easier.

Both of the inner wires used with the Genesis 2-conductor stranded cables are constructed from copper. The copper build allows the wires to easily transmit electricity and data as needed, thereby making the wires quite versatile. The two inner wires are color coded red and black. The red wire signifies a positive lead, while the black wire signifies a negative lead in most cases.

Note: This is unshielded cabling.
