Description

The Honeywell 968XTP is a high security contact and is a member of Honeywell’s XTP Series of commercial contacts. As commercial contacts are often installed outside, lightning strikes and power surges can be a problem. If enough voltage flows through a contact, the internal reed switch can become fused so that the contact would not trigger an alarm even if the magnet is removed. Therefore, lightning strikes and power surges can render your commercial contacts useless and you wouldn’t even know it had happened. However, Honeywell XTP contacts solve this issue. All XTP contacts are designed to withstand surges up to 2400VDC. Install the Honeywell 968XTP high security contact in the harshest environments with confidence.

The 968XTP contact utilizes a Form C, SPDT, normally closed or normally open reed switch and is secure when energized by the included magnet. If you want to use the high security contact as a normally closed switch, you will need to wire to the ‘COM’ and ‘NC’ terminals and if you want to use it as a normally open switch, you will need to wire to the ‘COM’ and the ‘NO’ terminals. The maximum contact rating for the switch depends on the voltage passing through. The maximum contact rating at 12V is 250ma and the maximum contact rating at 24V is 125mA.

Along with the XTP surge protection, the 968XTP contact has many other features that reduce the chance of someone or something being able to defeat the device. There is a normally closed tamper circuit that trips an alarm if someone tries to remove the contact from its mounting location. The tamper contacts should be wired to a zone that is setup with (24) hour protection so that a tamper alarm is triggered even if the security system is currently disarmed. The tamper circuit has a maximum contact rating of 1 Amp at 24VDC. There is a 3’ stainless steel armored cable that protects the wires coming out of the switch. For industrial applications, the armored cable will come in very handy. The 968XTP high security contact is balanced and contains multiple reed switches. Each reed switch has its own directionally shielded magnetic field so that you can position the magnet in many different positions. The balanced contact feature makes the 968XTP highly resistant to tampering from external magnets. The switch even has an epoxy seal to protect against moisture and corrosion so that outdoor environments will not prevent the contact from protecting your property.

The Honeywell 968XTP high security contact can be used inside or outside. You should use the 968XTP for your harshest outdoor applications and your maximum security indoor applications such as protecting a safe or vault.
