The IQ Mini comes in white or brown, so you are able to match it to your decor to prevent detection by intruders. It is simple to install, so you can be assured that you and your family will be protected at all times.

Benefits and Features of the Qolsys IQ Mini

The compact design of the Qolsys IQ Mini makes it easy to mount in any location with the included adhesive. The units are affordable, so you can place one on every window and entrance on your property, both indoors and outside. The sensor also has a built-in tamper switch to prevent removal of the device without your knowledge.

You can create smart home automation rules that are able to interact with other devices in your security system. For example, you can program the unit to adjust the temperature on your connected wireless thermostat if a window is left open. Likewise, you can set it up to turn on a light when someone returns home through the front door. The possibilities are endless.

Specifications of the IQ Mini

The IQ Mini measures just 2.25 inches high by 1 inch wide by 0.5 inches deep. The sensor has a wireless signal range of up to 600 feet (200 meters) in unobstructed space using the Security R/F radio. The device communicates directly with the IQ Panel to alert you if someone has tampered with it, an alarm was triggered, or if its battery is running low.

It can operate in a wide range of environmental conditions, from 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 to 50 degrees Celsius). It can tolerate relative humidity between 5 to 95 percent. The IQ Mini comes with adhesive strips and a rare earth magnet for easy installation wherever you need added protection.

Installation of the IQ Mini

The first step to set up the sensor is to identify the location. You have several options, as you can install the unit on exterior or interior doors, or windows. It’ll even work on sliding glass doors. You can also use it as a safety sensor on medicine cabinets or gun lockers. Next, you should remove the plastic tabs to activate power within the unit with the batteries.

Use the adhesive strip to put the sensor in place. You should test the location before adhering it to the surface to find the best fit. Then, simply line up the sensor with the magnet, using the magnet locator mark on the outside of the unit. Place the adhesive strips on the back, making sure that the magnet gap is no more than ¾ inches. Your device is now ready to connect with your system.

Next, you’ll need to pair the sensor with your IQ Panel through the Settings menu. Select "Installation," then choose "Security Sensors." The Auto Learn Sensor will automatically find the new component by tampering the unit, and opening the door to trigger the panel chime. The control center recognizes several groups of devices, each one with different setting options.

Select the Door/Window as the type of sensor for your IQ Mini. Each unit has a unique code that identifies it within the system. You can customize it with a special name, such as Living Room Window N, to help you locate a breach quickly. You can use up to 24 alphanumeric characters for each ID only. Click "Add" to connect the device to your security system.

Using the IQ Mini

After installing each component, you should test the operation of each sensor and device you add to make sure it is working properly. Then, you can set your automation rules, either when you first set it up, or later through the IQ Panel Settings menu. You can use the IQ Mini strictly as a security device to alert you that a window or door has been opened.

You can program a voice prompt to close it, or sound an alert. You can choose a unique chime so that you know where the trigger has occurred if you’re not nearby. You can arm your sensors in Stay mode to keep your family safe if someone is home alone. You can set the device to trigger an alarm immediately, or for a normal/long delay to give you time to disarm the system.

You can program a courtesy chime if a door has opened with a Safety Sensor, or use it to monitor unauthorized access with a siren that is reported to the IQ Panel. Both the Qolsys IQ Mini White and the Qolsys IQ Mini Brown are neutral in color for easy concealment in any room. You can stay connected with your home security with real-time alerts when a sensor has been triggered.

The Qolsys IQ Mini extends the functionality of your DIY home security system with a sensor that can detect access to your home or business. You can also use them to program home automation rules to get the most out of your connected smart devices. With the IQ Mini in place, you’ll ensure the safety of your family and property, whether you’re at home or away.

You also have the option to customize the IQ Mini with home automation rules that you can define in the IQ Panel Settings menu. You can give each sensor its own unique name so that you can easily identify where a security breach has occurred. You can also use the component as a safety sensor for detecting access to sensitive areas, such as chemical storage.

Note: Qolsys sensors operate at 319.5 MHz. They will not work with the 345 MHz and the 433 MHz versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. They are designed for the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus and other 319.5 MHz systems.

Awesome Door/Window Sensor
Submitted on 05/27/2020 Alarm Grid

The Qolsys IQ Mini is a wireless door and window that operates at 319.5 MHz. It was designed for use with the original IQ Panel, but it also works with the IQ Panel 2, the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus, and Interlogix Simon Security Systems. This is a compact and effective door and window sensor that works very well for its intended function. However, the sensor has been discontinued, and it can no longer be purchased new. But if you find a used model somewhere, then it should still work quite well. We are very pleased with the Qolsys IQ Mini, and we give it a 5 Star rating.

There are many things we like about the Qolsys IQ Mini. As you can probably guess from its name, it is a compact sensor, and it will hardly be noticeable on the outside of your door or window. It only measures 2.25": x 1"W x 0.5"D. The sensor is extremely easy to use and install, as it operates pretty much like any other sensor of this type. The sensor also offers tamper detection to let the system know if anyone tries to open up or disable that sensor. And it has a nice wireless range of 600 feet in open air.

There are not many downsides regarding the Qolsys IQ Mini. The biggest issue is that the sensor has been discontinued. You will be unlikely to find a brand new IQ Mini model. That being said, a used model should still work great if you have a 319.5 MHz system. And the IQ Mini doesn't offer any fancy features like wireless encryption or an auxiliary input. But really, these downsides are extremely minor. There is no way that we cannot award the Qolsys IQ Mini a perfect 5 Star rating.

Good: Compact, Easy to Use & Install, Tamper Detection, 600-Foot Range

Bad: Discontinued, Not Encrypted, No Auxiliary Input

Bottom Line: 5 Stars
