Description

The Somfy ZRSTi is a 16 channel window covering controller. Somfy's RTS (Radio Technology Somfy®) is a wireless technology which allows users to control motors for shades, blinds and other window coverings. Somfy offers the widest selection of indoor and outdoor window covering motors on the market. This product is essentially a translator that bridges the RTS signal to Z-Wave. If you have existing hardwired Sonesse 50 ILT2 (AC) motor and Sonesse 30 RS485 (DC) motors you should check out the Somfy ZDMI interface module. Generally, integrating Somfy motors meant bulky wiring and customized programming. The release of the ZRSTi means fully wireless, end to end shade control for any Z-Wave user.

The Z-Wave protocol has a wide range of hubs and controllers that make it easy to remotely control and configure automated scenes, rules and schedules! Honeywell and 2GIG manufactured alarm systems and automation controllers with Z-Wave functionality. The technology is somewhat new and has a lot to improve on. Currently, this controller offers discrete "open" or "close" commands. There is no stop function either. In other words, the current Honeywell and 2GIG compatible automation controllers do not have a way to keep the shade partially open/closed via Z-Wave. We hope this will change as the technology improves.

The good news is the status of the motor reports live so you can view status and toggle accordingly. Just keep this in mind before integrating your shade motors into any automated scenes. The ZRTSi module requires AC power and will control 16 Z-Wave nodes. Each node corresponds to an individual or a group of RTS motorized shades. The grouping and pairing process can be found in the setup guide.

Great Z-Wave Curtain Motor Controller!
Submitted on 01/22/2020 Alarm Grid

The Somfy ZRSTi is a Z-Wave shade controller. It uses Radio Technology Somfy (RTS) to wirelessly control the compatible motors for shades, blinds, and curtains. The ZRSTi can convert this RTS signal to Z-Wave and vice-versa so that your Z-Wave controller can communicate with your Somfy Curtain Motor. When using the Somfy ZRSTi, you can only have the window coverings fully opened or fully closed. The unit does not allow for partial closing. Still, this is a rare example of a Z-Wave device that can be used to open and close your blinds or other window coverings. Since this device provides a useful function that is matched by few other devices, we have no issue giving the Somfy ZRSTi a 5-Star rating.

There are many things we like about the Somfy ZRSTi. For one, it integrates nicely with nearly any Z-Wave controller or hub, including most security systems that support Z-Wave. The module can simultaneously connect with up to 16 different Somfy Curtain Motors that use RTS communication. From there, you can actually program the Somfy ZRSTi with up to 16 Z-Wave slots (aka Nodes) on your Z-Wave controller to allow for individual control for each motor used with the ZRSTi module. We also appreciate the fact that the Somfy ZRSTi is nice and compact, meaning that it won't take up too much space in your home or business.

There are some downsides associated with the Somfy ZRSTi. For one, it can only be used with Somfy Motors that support RTS communication. Other curtain motors will not work with the ZRSTi. The fact that you can only use the ZRSTi to completely open or completely close your window coverings is somewhat of a letdown. There is no way to use the module to leave your curtains partially open. Lastly, the fact that this module only uses standard Z-Wave is disappointing, as the more advanced Z-Wave Plus communication protocol is known to work more reliably.

Overall, the Somfy ZRSTi is a very good product. It has some downsides, but it is one of the few Z-Wave curtain motor controllers available. For that reason, it gets a 5-Star rating from Alarm Grid.

Good: Works w/ Nearly Any Z-Wave Controller, Can Connect w/ Up to 16 Somfy Curtain Motors Using RTS, Small & Compact Design

Bad: Only for Somfy Motors Using RTS, Cannot Partially Open/Close Curtains, Standard Z-Wave

Bottom Line: 5 Stars

You may have to check with Somfy, but the ZDMI (https://www.alarmgrid.com/products/somfy-zdmi ) is a device that would turn an existing Somfy blind setup into one that's Z-Wave capable and the Lyric has a built-in Z-Wave controller so that you could pair the ZDMI module with the Lyric. Do you already have a Lyric?
Can I control a somfy lt 28 motor with the Honeywell lyric system using a z wave interface? If so what is the proper interface to use?
