2GIG GC Touch: Cell Module Installation

[AUDIO LOGO] Hey, DIYers. Dylan here with Alarm Grid. Today, we're going to review how to install the cell module into the GC Touch Panel. So it's a very easy install because there is no install. So it's already installed in the panel. It's going to be built-in. You don't really have to access it. You can access it to get the IMEI number. But you can also get that from the panel, which is going to be the preferred way. And I'll show you how to access that screen.

The IMEI number is essentially the serial number for the cell module. And that is what your alarm company is going to use to connect to the panel. Get this paired with alarm.com and paired with monitoring services.

So we'll go in. We will check how to get the IMEI. We will do a cell test as well, which is going to check the signal strength and make sure this is communicating with alarm.com. So yeah, let's go ahead.

All right. So we have our GC Touch Panel here. And as I briefly mentioned in the intro, we don't really need to install a cell module to the panel because it's already installed. It's pre-installed into the panel. There's not really going to be a case where you ever have to access it.

There is a rare chance that if you need a reseat the SIM card, that's really the only time you're going to access the cell module. And for that process, it's so rare. And it's only really suggested if there's no other-- if the panel is not communicating. There's no other troubleshooting steps that we haven't tried. So I won't really review that too much here. But what I will review is just how to get the information about that cell module.

So instead of opening up the panel and pulling it out and doing all that, simply just go into Settings. Obviously, before we start, panel is disarmed. Need it disarmed. Settings. 1561 is installer code. So we will go to Equipment management. We're going to go to Panel Information and then IMEI. This is our cell module.

So this is essentially the serial number of the cellular module. This number is needed as this is what the alarm company is going to use to get the panel registered to start working over that cell communication.

The panel is going to use either AT&T or Verizon. That depends on which version you buy. It's very clearly marked when you are ordering. You'll want to go with whichever has the best signal in your area.

Now, after this is connected to a monitoring station, we can run a cellular test, just to make sure that the signal from here is reaching the monitoring station. They can run that from their end as well. But this is how you do it from your end.

So Equipment Management, System Test, Cellular Test. So we already have this paired with alarm.com. That's usually the best because that's where it's sending that signal. But here, we have the cell connection passed. So it sent the message to alarm.com, and it came back. Cell signal strength is 5 to 6.

And this is just information about the card. Not really much we need to go over. It's just information about the panel and all that. So cell test passed. We got that working. So we know that this panel is connected to alarm.com and communicating properly over the cell module.

So that was how to install the cell module and a brief overview of the cell module itself. So again, yeah, it's already built-in. You don't have to adjust it at all. I did mention while we're showing the screen that there is a rare instance where you'll reseat the SIM card. But unless you're instructed to do so by your monitoring company, do not do that.

So they will walk you through that process if it's needed. So just for now, don't touch the SIM. Leave it as is. Only touch it if your monitoring company lets you know that you need to do that.
