Adding and Deleting Zones in Total Connect

Adding and Deleting Zones in Total Connect

Transcript

Hi, DIYers. This is Frank at Alarm Grid. And we're back in our video lab working on our Total Connect tutorial videos today. And we'll be specializing in how to add and delete zones from Total Connect. This will be a bittersweet video. And it may not be the answer you want to hear. Long story short, you cannot add or delete zones from Total Connect. Just to be clear, programing, or zone programming in particular, is done locally at your alarm system. In most cases, your security dealer may have remote access to programming on their end. Or you can do it locally yourself in situations where you do have the installer code where you can go in and manage zones locally at the system. Otherwise, feel free to reach out to your security company if they do have remote access to add and delete zones when needed. And then what happens is Total Connect will sync with the local zone programming on the system. Just to run through real quick, I'll show you the other zones and kind of the limitations of why you can't add and delete. So we'll transition over to the web interface. We'll go to totalconnect2.com. We'll go ahead and log right into our Total Connect account. Should already have your username and password. If you don't, check out our how to log in to Total Connect video. Once you're logged, in if we go to Sensors here, you'll notice that there are checkboxes. I've had customers try to check this and reach out asking, hey, why can't I delete, or add other zones in here? And the reason is it's just a limitation at this point. I imagine at some point there might be some zone programming. But part of the security risk of adding and deleting zones using this interface is that it's not quite as secure as using an installer code locally at the alarm system. So that very well may never be the case. But again, on a lot of the newer wireless systems nowadays, even some of the Vista 15, 20 Ps out there with long range radios, internet, and cellular access, your AlarmNet dealer should be able to remotely program zones for you as well. So if you go to check these here, you'll notice the only thing we really have down at the bottom, no add or delete functions, just bypass, clear bypass. So you can bypass these zones, but no ability to add or delete sensors from Total Connect. So that answers that. If there's anything else we can help with, you can email us at support@alarmgrid.com.
