Description
The Arlo Base Station is needed to use the Arlo HD, Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 Cameras. This module allows the cameras to connect to the internet so that they can speak with the Arlo Cloud Servers. A single base station can support up to five Arlo Cameras with the free Arlo service plan.
In order to control an Arlo Camera with the free Arlo App, the camera must be paired with the Arlo Base Station. This makes the base station mandatory for most Arlo Camera models. All set up and configuration changes will be made through the app. This makes the base station a key component of any Arlo network.
A hardwired ethernet connection is make between the base station and the WIFI router to get the device online. All communication between the base station and the cameras themselves is done wirelessly. Users also have the capability to do local storage through a USB drive that is connected with the base station.
