Description
The DSC PG9924 Wireless Curtain Motion Detector is ideal for monitoring an entryway or a particular section of a room. Curtain motion detectors differ from standard motion detectors in that they do not look for motion throughout an entire room. It will work with any PowerG-compatible panel.
A curtain motion detector does not pickup motion throughout an entire room. Instead, this type of sensor sends out a relatively thin detection signal, and it can only detect motion when someone moves directly in front of it. As stated before, the PG9924 works best when monitoring an entry way or to see if someone moves into a particular section of a room. The detection signal it sends out is thin, and its length can be adjusted using based on the situation.
The device can be set up to utilize coverage lengths of 6, 12 and 18 feet depending upon the size of the opening it needs to monitor. Setting it to a lower range can be useful for reducing false alarms on the system. But the option is still there to increase the coverage area at any time if needed. This gives the PG9924 excellent versatility as a motion detecting sensor.
The PG9924 is a PowerG Sensor. This means that it will work with any DSC PowerSeries Neo Panel and any Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus that has a PowerG daughtercard installed. The device has a maximum communication range of up to 2 km away from the panel in open air. As a result, it can be reliably used across an entire property, such as in a barn or a detached garage. The wireless sensor utilizes 128-bit AES encryption to prevent it from being taken over in a wireless attack. It has a battery life of about 7 years using a CR123A lithium battery.
NOTE: The maximum range for a PowerG Sensor when used with an IQ Panel 2 Plus System is only 2,000 feet in open air. This is considerably less than the advertised 2km range. The 2km range refers to when a PowerG Sensor is used with a DSC PowerSeries NEO System.

The DSC PG9924 PowerG Wireless Curtain Motion Detector provides reliable motion detection in a very specific area. This differs from a standard motion sensor that will look for activity across an entire room. Curtain motion sensors like the PG9924 are great if you only want to monitor for activity at a door opening or at a specific section of the room. With the PG9924, you get all of the benefits of a PowerG Sensor, including the exceptional wireless range and excellent wireless encryption protection. This is a fantastic sensor to get if you need a curtain motion sensor for a PowerG System. We give the DSC PG9924 a perfect 5-Star rating.
There are many positive aspects regarding the DSC PG9924. For one, the sensor can communicate from up to 2km away from the panel's wireless receiver when used in an open air environment, depending on the panel it is being used with. The sensor uses 128-bit AES encryption. This is military grade encryption that makes it virtually impossible for others to hack or takeover the sensor. You can adjust the coverage area to 6, 12, or 18 feet depending on preference. The sensor only has a thin line of coverage, making it ideal for monitoring a door opening, while ignoring activity throughout the rest of the room.
There are not many downsides for the DSC PG9924. One issue is that it can only be used in an indoor environment. You cannot use this motion sensor outdoors. Like any wireless sensor, the PG9924 relies on battery power, and you will need to replace the CR123A battery with a new one every few years, depending upon usage. The PG9924 can only be used with PowerG-compatible Systems, which does limit how you can use the sensor. But overall, these downsides are extremely minor, and they do not stop us from giving the DSC PG9924 a 5 Star score.
