Description

The DSC PG9945 Wireless Door and Window Contact that is capable of monitoring virtually any door or window. It is a surface mount sensor that is easy to install, and it operates using an included magnet. The sensor is part of the DSC PowerG Series, giving it great range and reliability.

The device operates much like that of any other door or window contact. It includes a magnet for its operation. The sensor is installed on the door or window frame, and the magnet is installed on the door or window itself. For best results, the magnet should be placed within 0.25 inches of the sensor. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause a reed switch inside the PG9945 to activate. The sensor will then send an alert to the alarm system to let it know that the door or window has been opened. The system will perform the programmed action for that zone.

Another feature of the DSC PG9945 is its auxiliary input. This allows it to serve as a wireless transmitter for a single hardwired device. The device will connect directly with the input on the PG9945, and the PG9945 will send a wireless signal to the panel on its behalf. The input will support Normally Open, Normally Closed and Single End-of-Line devices. That gives the user a large number of options in choosing a hardwired device to use with the PG9945. One example of such a device that can be used in this manner is the Macurco GD-2A Wired Natural Gas and Propane Detector. Remember that with a powered 4-wire device like the GD-2A, you will need the appropriate power supply set up as part of the connection to make this possible.

As a PowerG Sensor, the PG9945 offers a particularly powerful signal range. In open air, the sensor will work reliably from up to 2 kilometers away from the panel. This means that it could be used across the entire property, such as in a detached garage or a barn. The sensor also utilizes 128-bit AES encryption. This means that any time the sensor sends a command to the system, the panel will need to send a compatible return signal to the sensor for the command to go through. This prevents the sensor from being hacked or taken over wirelessly by others. The panels that will support the encrypted signal of the PG9945 include the DSC PowerSeries Neo Panels and any Qolsys IQ Panel 2 with a PowerG daughtercard.

NOTE: The maximum range for a PowerG Sensor when used with an IQ Panel 2 Plus System is only 2,000 feet in open air. This is considerably less than the advertised 2km range. The 2km range refers to when a PowerG Sensor is used with a DSC PowerSeries NEO System.

Great PowerG Contact!
Submitted on 12/13/2019 Alarm Grid

The DSC PG9945 is a wireless PowerG Door and Window Contact. It is used to let a compatible security system know when a door or window has been opened and closed. The sensor is known for its extremely long wireless signal range and its encrypted communication. However, it does have a rather small magnet spacing gap allowance, and it is somewhat of a bulky sensor. But its strengths outweigh its weaknesses, and it is a good sensor all-around. We give it a 5-Star rating.

There are many things we like about the DSC PG9945. For one, it has a really impressive wireless signal, that can communicate from up to 2 km away from certain system types. This gives you great flexibility in choosing a location for the sensor. It is also quite useful if you are using the sensor in an area with many metal objects and other structures that could cause interference. Anyone needing a sensor for use in a warehouse, factory, or other area with a lot of interference will definitely want to consider PowerG Sensors if they have a compatible system. We also like the wireless encryption that PowerG Sensors like the PG9945 use. Like all PowerG Sensors, the PG9945 communicates using military-grade 128-bit AES encryption. This makes it virtually impossible for others to hack or take over wirelessly. Finally, we like the fact that the PG9945 has an auxiliary input for use with Normally Open, Normally Closed, and Single End-of-Line devices. The wired device will connect with the PG9945, and the sensor will communicate with the system on its behalf. This is great if you want to use a non-powered wired security device with your PowerG System.

But there are some downsides to the DSC PG9945. For one, it has a rather small magnet spacing gap allowance, as DSC states that the sensor should be within 1/4 of an inch from the magnet when the door or window is closed. Remember to test the sensor after installation so that you can be sure that the magnet and sensor are aligned properly. Another downside to the DSC PG9945 is that it is somewhat of a bulky door and window sensor. It is rather large when compared with another PowerG door and window contact, the DSC PG9303. However, the DSC PG9945 is less expensive than the PG9303, so if you don't mind the size, then this can be the better option. Also, only the PG9945 has the auxiliary input. There are certainly many situations where it is best to choose the PG9945 over the PG9303. But if you are looking for the thinnest sensor, then you should go with the PG9303 instead.

All things considered, we really like the DSC PG9945. It gets 5 Stars from Alarm Grid.

Good: PowerG Wireless Range, 128-Bit AES Encryption, Auxiliary Input

Bad: Small Magnet Spacing Gap, Somewhat Bulky

Bottom Line: 5 Stars

Yes you may use this product. All you would have to do is wire the hardwired contacts in series
Can you use this to monitor both doors on a double door setup, if you connected two wired contacts to the aux input and mounted the actual unit nearby?
