DSC IotegaPK3

The DSC Iotega 3-1 System Kit includes all you need for a basic security setup. The kit is centered around the DSC Iotega System. Also included are three (3) PowerG Door and Window Contacts and a single PowerG Motion Sensor. The Iotega Panel comes dual-path ready for service with Alarm.com.

There are important things to keep in mind if you plan to use a DSC Iotega. This system does not allow for local end user programming. All programming must be done remotely by an alarm monitoring company. This does not fit the true DIY model, and the system is not recommended for anyone who wants to make their own programming changes. Minor tasks like enrolling new sensors and adjusting system configurations cannot be completed by an end user. This is very important to know for anyone who plans on using the Iotega.

The advantage to the Iotega is that it supports both Apple HomeKit and DSC PowerG Sensors. In fact, this is currently the only security system with both of these features. Apple HomeKit is great for iOS users, as it allows them to use Siri voice commands to arm and disarm their system from anywhere. This requires a compatible HomeKit Hub like an iPad, HomePod or AppleTV 4th Generation or higher. You can also include the system with HomeKit Smart Scenes for automatic operation based on a schedule or with certain system events.

If you want a similar system kit that supports HomeKit and allows end user programming, then you might consider the Lyric AT&T LTE 3-1 Kit instead. On the other hand, the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus Verizon 3-1 Kit will provide PowerG Sensor support and end user programming. The only reason to really consider the Iotega is if you absolutely need the extended range (up to 2km) of PowerG Sensors and HomeKit compatibility. Otherwise, it is strongly recommended that you choose a system with end user programming capabilities.

The good news is that this Iotega is dual-path ready for service with Alarm.com. A Verizon LTE Communicator and WIFI card are both built-in. You just need to activate it for service with an alarm monitoring company. You will want to get a Gold Plan or higher for use with Alarm.com. This service lets you arm and disarm, check system status, control Z-Wave devices, view live ADC Camera feeds and more. The built-in Z-Wave Plus controller of the Iotega makes it great for use with the smart home features of Alarm.com.
