Description

The Qolsys IQ DW Standard gives you the power to extend the sphere of your home security ecosystem to include safeguarding any door or window on your property. Find out immediately if there has been a breach with real-time alerts to your smartphone or computer. The IQ DW is compact enough to install in virtually any location.

The sensor connects directly to your IQ Panel where you can monitor its operation and customize its actions to fit your needs. You can use it as a standard security device that will detect an unauthorized entry into your home and sound an alarm. You can also set it up with smart automation rules to turn on a light when you return. The choice is yours.

The device is tamper-resistant to keep you safe from interference. It has a long battery life up to five years or more. It is easy to install to begin protecting your home in minutes. With an affordable price tag, you can secure every entrance onto your property to give you the peace of mind of 24/7 protection.

Features of the Qolsys IQ DW STANDARD

The small form factor of the IQ DW makes it easy to install inconspicuously. An intruder won’t be able to spot it before being detected. It is highly sensitive and will trigger an alert if a window or door is moved in as little as a half inch. If an intruder tries to remove it, you’ll also be notified through communication with the IQ Panel.

The device comes with hardware and an adhesive strip for easy installation wherever you need to monitor activity. You can control its actions through the command center which you can modify at anytime. You can rest assured that the sensor is always on the job with notifications when the battery level is low for continuous protection.

Specifications of the IQ DW Sensor

The IQ DW measures 3.25 inches long by 1.3 inches wide by 1 inch deep. The accompanying magnet is 1.3 inches long by 0.435 inches wide by 0.312 inches deep. Its wireless signal range is 600 feet (200 meters). It will give several types of alerts including tamper, alarm, and low battery along with restore functions on these outputs.

The sensor can handle a wide range of environmental conditions, making it appropriate for both outdoor and indoor use. It can withstand a temperature range of about 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit and a relative humidity window of 5 to 95 percent. It uses two 3V CR2032 lithium batteries. The manufacturer recommends replacing them every five years.

Installation of the IQ DW Sensor

Setting up the IQ DW is easy. First, you should choose a suitable location to install the sensor and its magnet. You can place it on either exterior or interior doors. You can even put in on a garage or sliding glass door. It works with windows too. You can also use it to monitor access to secure areas such as chemical storage or a gun locker.

Next, you should open the case to remove the tabs between the internal contact points and the battery. You can mount the sensor and magnet with either the included adhesive strips or hardware. The maximum gap between the two should be no more than 0.4 inches (1 centimeter) apart.

Before adhering the device or drilling holes, make sure the sensor and magnet will fit in the location you have selected. To pair it with your IQ Panel, place the control center in Auto Learn mode. You’ll need to trigger an alert by tampering the sensor by opening and closing the case. Add the new device to the Door/Window group.

Then, you can customize its setting in the panel. You can set a unique identifying name such as Garage Door Left using up to 24 alphanumeric characters. After it’s installed, test the sensor to make sure it works as you want it and change it as necessary.

Using the IQ Sensor

In addition to a custom name, you can also set automation rules for each device you install. You can define it to sound a siren if a door is opened when the IQ Panel is armed in either Stay or Away mode. You can also set a normal or long delay so that you have time to disarm the command center when you return home.

You can also set smart rules for your convenience. For example, you can define an action to turn on the light when you come home so that you needn’t enter a dark house. Likewise, you can control the sensor to manage your thermostat if a window is left open. You can add voice prompts or choose a chime.

The latter is an excellent option for using it as a Safety Sensor for a sensitive area such as a medicine cabinet. You can choose to trigger an alarm too if you want to control access to certain places. And as with the initial installation, make sure to test the device so that it triggers the appropriate response. You can modify it at anytime through the IQ Panel Settings menu.

You can set up the sensor so that you’re notified by text or phone if someone enters a room or opens a window with real-time alerts. You can always stay connected to important activity in your home.

The IQ DW gives you the flexibility to use the device in the best way that it works for you and your security needs. That’s where the value of the IQ Sensor comes into play. You can use it to interact with other smart devices that you have paired with your IQ Panel. Your options are limitless. You can also control the unit remotely using the Alarm.com mobile app.

The Qolsys IQ DW STANDARD gives you the opportunity to create a security solution that matches your needs. You can install on virtually anywhere you need to monitor and control access to your home and property. With customization options, you can create smart rules to trigger other actions to maximize your security and convenience.

Note: Qolsys sensors operate at 319.5 MHz. They will not work with the 345 MHz and the 433 MHz versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. They are designed for the 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus and other 319.5 MHz systems.

Better 319.5 MHz Contacts Available

We do not recommend the Qolsys IQ DW Standard. There are other sensors that perform the same job more effectively. If you already have an IQ DW Standard, then it will continue to work just fine. But if you are in the market for a new sensor, then we recommend looking elsewhere. That is why we give the IQ DW Standard a 3 Star rating.

The Qolsys IQ DW Standard is a wireless 319.5 MHz door and window contact sensor. It uses an internal reed switch and an accompanying magnet to let a system know whenever a door or window is opened. The sensor works with virtually any system that accepts the 319.5 MHz frequency. This includes the original Qolsys IQ Panel 2, the 319.5 MHz version of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, and the Interlogix Security Systems. Any of these systems can support the IQ DW Standard. Our technicians have found that the IQ DW Standard is super easy to enroll.

For users who already have an IQ DW Standard, the sensor should continue to work just fine. But if you are looking for a new sensor, then there are some other ones you might want to consider. If you just need a standard, non-encrypted wireless sensor, then you should consider the VERSA-GE. This sensor operates at the same 319.5 MHz frequency, and it offers a better wireless range. This sensor is also sleeker and more compact, allowing you to achieve a better-looking installation. If you just need a regular, no-frill sensor, go with the VERSA-GE instead.

If you have an IQ Panel 2 or a 319.5 MHz IQ Panel 2 Plus, then you might also consider the Qolsys IQ DW MINI-S. This is an encrypted wireless sensor that will offer better security when compared with the Qolsys IQ DW Standard. As an encrypted sensor, the IQ DW MINI-S is virtually impossible for others to hack or takeover wirelessly. Just note that the IQ DW MINI-S will only utilize encryption on the aforementioned systems. As for the IQ DW Standard, it can potentially be beaten using a process called RF jamming. The IQ DW MINI-S is also smaller and more compact.

Bottom line, if you have an IQ DW Standard, then you can certainly keep using it. But if you are looking for a new sensor, consider your needs, and go with either the VERSA-GE or the IQ DW MINI-S.
