Description

In this video, Michael from Alarm Grid explains how the DSC PG9944 PowerG Image Sensor takes still-image pictures, and not videos. When the DSC PG9944 triggers an alarm on the system, it will capture ten (10) images. The first one is forwarded to Alarm.com for remote viewing from the website or app.

As an image sensor, the DSC PG9944 does not capture any videos. It only captures still-image pictures. Image sensors are often used to verify alarms, and they can represent a nice alternative to full-motion security cameras. The advantage to using image sensors like the PG9944 instead of traditional video surveillance cameras is that most monitoring companies will not require you to get a special video monitoring plan to use image sensors. This is great for users who are particularly concerned about keeping monitoring costs as low as possible.

The DSC PG9944 is designed to only capture images when it triggers a system alarm. It captures 10 images when activated, and it sends the first of these images to Alarm.com. If the user has a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus System, they can view all 10 images directly from the panel. The images are stitched together in the form of a stop-motion video. This will have an effect on the eyes to make the images appear as a choppy video. But rest assured, they are still-image pictures, not videos.

In order to use the camera function for the DSC PG9944, you will need to have your system set up with Alarm.com. You must ask your monitoring company to enable the appropriate image sensor feature for your Alarm.com account. Additionally, you will need to enable Panel Camera Alarm Image Uploads from the Automation section of the Alarm.com website. You can do this by accessing your Alarm.com account from the web browser and clicking the Automation Menu on the left to access the appropriate setting.

Hi, DIYers, this is Michael from Alarm Grid. And today, I'm going to answer the question of whether the DSC PG9944 outdoor image sensor takes still motion images or full motion video. And the answer to that question is that it takes still images. It does not produce full motion video. I actually have the sensor right here. I'm going to hold it up for you. This is the outdoor image sensor the DSC PG, Power G, 9944. So how this device works, it's an image sensor. So it's basically a still motion image camera combined with a motion detection sensor. It operates just like a regular motion sensor. When it detects movement, it'll send an alert to your system. And the system will respond based on the sensor group that you have designated for the system. This could be triggering an immediate alarm. It might give you a delay, and you would have a brief opportunity to disarm before an alarm would occur. But it's basically acting like a regular motion detection sensor. But how this sensor is different is that when your system goes into alarm, it's going to produce some images. It's going to take some still motion images. And it's going to send them to the panel. And if you have an IQ Panel Two Plus or a Standard IQ Two-- well, it would have to be an IQ Panel Two Plus because Power G. So if you have an IQ Panel Two Plus, then it will send images to the panel for local viewing. You can view them at the panel. And it will send 10 of those images in a stop motion video, which I'll show you that in a second. And it will also send the first of these images to alarm.com for viewing on the alarm.com website or the alarm.com mobile app. So if you're out and about, and your system goes into alarm, you can check the mobile app on your phone. And you can see the image sent to alarm.com. And maybe it was just a false alarm. Maybe something fell. Or maybe someone's in your home, and you see a strange individual in your picture. And you know to contact the authorities immediately. So I will show you the images that are produced in a second. So you have your IQ Panel Two Plus right here. You're at the main screen. And if you just swipe over to where you have your panel images, it also includes the camera images because the IQ Panel Two Plus has a built-in camera right here. You can see them here. So what we did earlier is we disabled the siren on our IQ Panel Two Plus system to not disturb anybody. And we put our system into alarm. And we have the camera, this image sensor, focused on our friend Dylan out in the support room. And you can see we got some images of him. It's a stop motion video. And we'll play that. You can see it's 10 images just strung together of Dylan doing his thing. And yeah, you can see that they are still images. That is not a video. It kind of looks a little bit like a video because it's in stop motion, kind of has that weird effect on your eyes, I know. But rest assured, those are still motion images. They are not full motion video. And that's the great thing about image sensors is that you don't need a video monitoring plan to use them. You can use them with any alarm.com account, as long as you have the image sensor feature enabled by your alarm monitoring company, which we are happy to enable. If you are interested in full motion video cameras, there are plenty alarm.com cameras to choose from. Some examples, the ADC-V723, the ADC-V522-IR are some great ones. Those will capture a full motion video, actual movement in the recordings, if you want something more like that. But just be aware that you would need to upgrade to a monitoring plan that includes video surveillance. So that may increase your monitoring fee, but you would have to check with your monitoring company. So that's the DSC PG9944. It produces still images, not full motion video.
