Description

In this video, Jarrett from Alarm Grid explains how you can only use one battery pack inside a Honeywell Lyric Alarm Panel at a time. The Lyric Alarm Panel only has one battery port available for a backup battery. And even if it had a 2nd port, then trying to add a second battery would cause issues.

The Honeywell Lyric Alarm System is a wireless all-in-one security system that is used in many homes and businesses for security, life-safety, and automation purposes. This system must remain powered on at all times in order to provide adequate monitoring and protection. That is why the system comes equipped with a backup battery. Whenever AC power from the plug-in transformer is unavailable, the system will automatically switch over to its battery backup. The battery backup provides a temporary source of power until AC power is restored. The standard battery backup option for the Lyric is the Honeywell LCP500-4B, which will keep the system running for up to 4 hours. You can also upgrade to the Honeywell LCP500-24B, which will keep the system running for up to 24 hours.

Many users wonder if they can add a second battery back to the system. The idea is that the second battery back would be able to keep the system running for even longer. Unfortunately, there are a couple of reasons why this wouldn't work. The first is that there is only one available plug-in port on the Lyric System for a backup battery. The second is that the Lyric Backup Battery draws off of AC power to store its charge. If you had two backup batteries that were both feeding off AC power, then it would take away too much power for the system itself to remain running properly. This could result in an AC loss condition for the system. For those reasons, using two backup batteries on a single Lyric Panel is not feasible. If you experience frequent power outages, or power outages that often exceed 24 hours, then your best option is to get a power generator that will keep your Lyric System running during power outages.

Hey, DIYers. Jarrett with Alarm Grid here. Today we're going to talk about if you can use more than one battery pack with the Honeywell Lyric alarm system. The answer is no. You can't use more than one battery pack with the Honeywell Lyric. There's only one battery, or there's only one port in the Honeywell Lyric that allows you to connect a battery backup. Now, there are two options for battery backups that you can use with the Lyric. There is the LCP 504B, and then there's the LCP 524B. Either one of these battery backups you can use with the Lyric, but again you can only use one at a time. The battery backup is very important for the Honeywell Lyric system because if your power ever goes out, then as you all know, the battery backup will keep the system up and going and it will it powered up until the power comes back. Now, in order for the Honeywell Lyric to be able to communicate with the AlarmNet 360 servers or even Total Connect 2.0, it needs to have some sort of battery or some sort of power. So if the power goes out, then that's why the battery backup is there. So if you wanted to checkout what happens when the Honeywell Lyric runs on battery backup power, you can just follow the link to FAQ below. And this will give you a detailed description of what happens and how the Lyric behaves whenever the backup power, or whenever it is running on the backup power. Now, when the Honeywell Lyric is being powered up and it's using the transformer or it's being powered up via the transformer, that backup battery is continuously storing power. So that whenever the power does go out it is ready to be able to kick in and be able to keep the system up and going until that power switch is back on. Now, the backup batteries-- it is very important to keep this in mind, is that these batteries will over time eventually lose charge. And the thing is is these are supposed to last about three to five years. They're supposed to hold the charge for about that long. But once they do, then you will need to replace it. And as stated before or earlier in the video, there are two options you could choose for backup batteries. And there's the LCP 504B and then there is the LCP 524B. Now, the difference between both of those is that the LCP 504B, it is meant to last four hours if the power goes out. And that also is the default battery backup that comes with the Honeywell Lyric when you receive it. And there's the LCP 24B, which this one you would have to get separately, but this one is supposed to last 24 hours. So if you wanted to change out the battery backup for the Honeywell Lyric, you're just going to follow these simple steps. So what you'll do is first step is just taking the system off of the back plate. To do that, you're just going to push it-- well first, you're going to look at the bottom and there's normally going to be a screw at the bottom holding it in place. You will need to take that out first before you go ahead and take it off the back plate. But once you do, you're just going to push the system up and then pull the system toward you. And now it's going to come off the back plate. Whenever you are doing anything with battery backup or changing the power for the system or anything like that, you always want to go through the procedure of unplugging the battery backup first, and then unplug the power for the system. So in this case, you'll just unplug the battery backup and then since we have an LT cable we're just going to disconnect this. But if you do not have the LT cable you are just going to plug in the transformer. So as you can see, our Honeywell Lyric is completely powered down because we did unplug the battery backup and the power for the system. So if you look in the inside of it, we now have the battery backup which is in the center of the console. And we have the power cable-- or another power cable with the connector for the battery backup. And here is the port that you would plug it into. So now one thing that I do want to point out between, or the difference between the two battery backups that I had mentioned. The LCP 504B, that one's going to be blue. And the LCP 524B is going to be green. So this is the blue one. So this is the one that comes with the Honeywell Lyric when you order it. So if you wanted this-- if you were to switch out the battery backup, you're going to look at the-- first there's going to be a back plate that you're going to want to take out first. And as you can see, there is going to be a screw that you're going to have to take out. So you're going to need a Phillips screwdriver to be able to take out the screw and you're just going to unscrew this. You're going to have to take out the whole screw. And then you're going to take out this little battery piece or the cover. And the battery backup is now going to be-- it will be taken out. So when you're putting in the new backup battery, you're just going to make sure that the cable, which is at the top-- you're going to make sure that the cable is located at the top of the backup battery. You don't want to put it in with it facing that way. I mean, you can if you want to, but normally it's a lot easier to be able to plug the connector into the ports, which is located right at the top of the Lyric. It's going to be a lot easier if you have the cable facing upwards. So you're just going to pop it in the backup battery where it was already in place. And you're just going to hold it up in place at the top. And what you're going to do is grab this backup battery cover and you're going to take this end, this end right here, and you're going to place it into-- you're going to slide it into one of these ports. So what you're going to do is just pop it in. Make sure it aligns with where the screw was. And you are going to need your Phillips screwdriver. And you're going to need your screw. So just screw that place. And now the backup battery is not going to move at all if the Honeywell Lyric were to be taken off the back plate or anything like that. And once you're done installing it, you're going to take your connector and you're going to plug it into the port at the top. Just tuck the cables in. Make sure they're not missing. And the last step is to finally power it back up. So in this instance what we're going to do is just take the LT cable and we're just going to plug it in. But if you do have a normal setup, then you're just going to pop it in place and you're going to plug in the transformer and your system will be powered back up. All right. So when you're plugging it back in-- well, actually first, what we had to do is grab the LT cable again and feed it through. But when you're plugging that back in, you basically just mount the system and you plug in the transformer. But in any case, as I said, we're just going to plug in the LT cable. And you're going to place it back on the back plate. To do that, you're just going to keep it up at the top and just gently drop it down. And that's it. And that is how many battery backups you can use with the Honeywell Lyric alarm system.
