In this video, Jorge from Alarm Grid explains how an L7000 System can be used with Samsung SmartThings. You can add the L7000 as a secondary controller to your SmartThings Hub. Z-Wave devices paired with SmartThings are automatically pushed over to the L7000 System after the pairing process is done.

The L7000 can only support Z-Wave devices if a Honeywell L5100-ZWAVE module is added first. You will need to do this before you can complete the integration between the system and Samsung SmartThings. Once you complete the integration, any Z-Wave device that is paired with the SmartThings Hub will be automatically pushed over to the L7000 System. You will also be able to control the Z-Wave devices through Total Connect 2.0 if the panel is connected with that platform. We recommend pairing all your Z-Wave devices with SmartThings before completing the integration.

There are a few different benefits that come from adding the L7000 as a secondary controller to your Samsung SmartThings Hub. For one, you will have the ability to operate your Z-Wave devices from the SmartThings App, from your L7000, and from TC2 if your panel is connected with that service. You can use TC2 to create smart scenes for Z-Wave devices pushed over the the L7000 as well. And since the devices are still paired with the SmartThings Hub, any Z-Wave devices will retain their Z-Wave Plus functionality when controlled using the L7000. This is true even though the L5100-ZWAVE module does not use Z-Wave Plus.

The process for adding the L7000 as a secondary controller for any primary controller is completed through the Advanced Z-Wave Tools Menu of the panel. The process will likely take several minutes to complete, as moving Z-Wave devices is a somewhat complicated endeavor. Note that Z-Wave devices paired with the L7000 will not be automatically pushed over to SamrtThings. You should delete any Z-Wave devices paired with the L7000 and add them to SmartThings before completing the integration.

Hi, DIYers. I'm Jorge from Alarm Grid. Today, I'm going to be going over how you can use SmartThings with your LYNX L7000 Alarm System. Now, today I have my L7000 right here. Now, before we even start, you do want to make sure if you're planning on doing SmartThings with your L7000, that must mean that you're looking at integrating Z-Wave devices between both hubs. Now, if that is the case, you want to make sure that your L 7000 actually has an L5100 Z-Wave module plugged into it. All right. If it does not have a Z-Wave module plugged in, it will not work with Z-Wave. Simple as that. So the Z-Wave module you can buy it online. It is a separate add-on piece. It simply plugs into the main motherboard, and then, voila, your system is Z-Wave compatible. You do want to make sure you install it while the system is powered down, though. All right. So just to get into a little specifics on the integration of SmartThings and L7000. So a lot of people believe that if they do SmartThings with the L7000, they can control the alarm system from the SmartThings hub. That actually is not the case. The only way that these two hubs integrate with each other is that they share Z-Wave devices. And I'm going to show you guys what process you need to do that, because it is a specific order that you need to have Z-Wave devices learned in. And then it's just a complete different setup. So to start off, I'm going to go ahead and show you guys my SmartThings app. So let me get my iPad ready. I'll be controlling my SmartThings from my tablet-- or my iPad. If you guys are using an iPhone or Android device, it will be the same concept. So let me go in and get everything ready for you. So once you have your smart device, whether it's an iPhone, tablet, Android device, you're going to go ahead and open up the SmartThings application. Now, mine automatically logs in because it knows all my user credentials and my password. So it is automatically going to log in. But usually, you'll be taken to a dashboard that looks something like this. What you're going to want to go ahead and do first is go to my home. Now, as you see here, I have some office speakers. I have a Kwikset 916 lock. I have a Z-Wave plug-in module. I have a Qolsys siren, and I have a Z-Wave thermostat learned in to my SmartThings hub. Now, the one thing that you guys need to keep in mind is that if you guys are looking at sharing the Z-Wave devices to your L7000, you guys need to make sure they're compatible with Z-Wave devices. For instance, the Z-Wave sirens, those will not work with my alarm system. Only home automation devices such as lights, locks, thermostats, plug-in module, switches, light bulbs, garage door controllers, blind shade controllers, different things like that. These are all home automation devices. And speakers, unfortunately, is just not something that the L7000 is compatible with. So you'll see when we actually learn in the L7000, that only a few devices are going to learn into that system. Now, the first thing we have to do after we've confirmed all of the Z-Wave devices are into the SmartThings hub-- by the way, this is the first order of operations you have to do. If you guys are looking at sharing Z-Wave devices between both hubs, you need to make sure that the Z-Wave devices are first learned in to the SmartThings hub. If they are not learned into the SmartThings hub first and you go to learn in the L50-- or the L7000 as a secondary controller, the Z-Wave devices will not be transferred over to the L7000. So you want to make sure they're learned into the SmartThings hub first. All right. So I'm going to go ahead and go to my L7000. I'm going to click on-- you should be in the home screen where it'll say security automation video. We're going to go ahead and click on automation. We're going to hit the down arrow key. We're going to go to Tools. Now, in Tools, we need to go to Advanced. It's going to ask you to enter in a code. You want to make sure you enter in your master code. This is the code that you usually use to arm and disarm the alarm system. So I'm going to enter in 1-- oop, sorry. It kind of timed out there. I'm going to go back to advanced Tools. I'm going to enter in my code-- 1, 2, 3, 4. Mine is defaulted at 1, 2, 3, 4. Yours could be different if your company or yourself have changed it. Now, after I am here, you are going to hit the learn button. But before you hit the learn button, you want to make sure on your SmartThings app where you're at my home, you'll see a little device-- a little button underneath the things icon. It'll say plus sign, add a thing. I'm going to go ahead and hit that. Now, it's looking for devices. So it's actually looking for a Z-Wave. Z-Wave signal means sent from a device. So now I'm going to go to my L7000 and I'm going to hit the learn button. The system will go into learn mode. Now typically, when you're doing this, you want to make sure that your L7000 is within range of your SmartThings hub. If the range-- if you guys-- if it's too far apart, it may not work. So mine is pretty much over in the next room. So it says, device found, please wait. However, on my SmartThings app, it took a little bit for it to come through. But now it is here. It says Z-Wave controller. I'm going to go ahead and rename this to L7000 just so that I'm not confused. And I'm going to hit Save in the top right. It's going to ask you if you want to confirm or add more devices. I'm just going to hit OK to confirm that I'm done. And now that I'm in the L7000-- now that I'm in the SmartThings main screen, you're going to see my L7000 here. So right now what I just did is I learned in my L7000 as a secondary controller to the SmartThings. So what you're going to start seeing is all of the compatible Z-Wave devices from SmartThings will be pushed down to the L7000. Now, your L7000 might be on this screen for quite a while. Device found, please wait. As you see, it's already in our SmartThings, so this is kind of just pulling in all the Z-Wave information, which could take anywhere from 5 to 10-- I don't know how long, depending on the Z-Wave network you have, it could take quite a while. For me when I was testing this earlier, it took about 5 minutes just for the Z-Wave lock and the switches to come through. The thermostat's still-- it showed there was a thermostat, but it didn't show the status and all the correct information. If you guys don't want to wait, you guys just want to go ahead and go back to normal conditions on the system, you can just hit the house button. It'll back you out to the main screen. But if I go back into automation, since I didn't let that screen go away, what you're going to see, for instance on the locks, you may see, still not ready. Why? Because it's still pulling that information in from the SmartThings. It even says it right there in the yellow letters. Some locks are still not ready. So for instance, the thermostat, as well. It will have a question mark, question mark, because it's still pulling in the information. And then my switches, it will actually-- my Qolsys siren learns in as a switch, for some reason, on the links panels. Actually, on the Honeywell systems, so make sure you guys are aware of that. And then you'll see my plug-in module is also comes in as switch number 2. So I'm just going to go ahead and give that time to kind of refresh. But basically, once you have all your Z-Wave devices into SmartThings, once you've learned your L7000 as a secondary controller into SmartThings using the process we just did, then all the Z-Wave devices that are compatible from the SmartThings hub will be pushed down to the L7000. From there on the L7000 using the on screen menu or even Total Connect, you need to make sure you do a panel sync. You also want to make sure with your monitoring company that you have the automation feature enabled on your total connect account. After you verified all of that, then you should be able to actually create scenes and rules from the panel and from Total Connect 2.0 Service using the devices that were pushed down from the SmartThings hub. Now, this is beneficial for you guys because, let's say I want to set a rule that whenever I Arm Away, I want all my door locks to lock and all my lights to turn on, right? So when I Arm Away, all the locks will lock and the lights will turn on. The status will be updated on SmartThings, and they'll both be sharing the Z-Wave status features and be able to be controlled from both applications. Now, one thing with the Z-- with the SmartThings hub is that it is Z-Wave Plus. So that's something to just keep in mind. If you guys are using Z-Wave Plus devices, more than likely since the system is normal Z-Wave, you may not get the Z-Wave Plus features with the alarm system, but you will get Z-Wave Plus features if you're using just SmartThings. All right. So you want to make sure that you're aware of that whenever using Z-Wave Plus and normal Z-Wave. You do lose the Z-wave Plus features, which is usually longer battery life and longer range. Now, I just want to show you guys real quick that my Z-waves devices actually are working. I'm going to go ahead and demonstrate the lock for you guys. So today I have my Kwikset Smart Code 916 Deadbolt Z-Wave Lock. I have it learned into my SmartThings hub here as you see on the top right, Kwikset 916 Lock. Right now it is showing unlocked. So when I click on this Kwikset 916 Lock, you should see on the left-hand side of the lock the actual deadbolt will come out, simulating a locked door. Takes a little bit for the command to go through. And now, the Z-Wave lock shows locked on SmartThings, and as you see here, the deadbolt is out, simulating a locked door. Now, I can go ahead and unlock it, as well. And click the button, I wait for the command to go through and the door unlocks. Now, let's go ahead and see if our L7000 screen, if it's actually updated with all the Z-Wave information. Some devices may be ready and some may still not be ready. Like I said, it takes a little bit of time. So I'm going to go into my automation screen. I'm going to go into my locks. As you see my lock now-- it does not say still not ready. It is now actually showing the status. And it shows unlocked. I can actually press to lock it from the lock, as well. It will say locking. And again, it might take a little bit longer for the command to go through from the L7000 since this is pri-- since the Z-Wave lock is primary to learn into SmartThings, remember, it has to go through a chain of commands. So now it did lock the Z-Wave lock. And right now the screen is taking a little bit to update. But if I just want to refresh that, I can just hit the back arrow key and go back to my lock screen. And it should-- it should be showing locked right now because we did lock it. So it could just be taking a while for the status of the lock to update. But as you see, the lock control came in. The thermostat control is still not in here yet. My switches are perfectly fine in here, as well. And if I wanted to create scenes, I can go to my scenes icon. And I can go ahead and I'm going to go ahead and delete the ones that are in there. I can hit add new scene, name it whatever I want. I can create rules on the system. Hit the down arrow key, go to Rules. And, yeah. So that is just a quick video on how you can integrate your L7000 and SmartThings together so that they share Z-Wave devices.
