Description

The Altronix RB5 is manufactured for continuous operation, to provide switching capability for a variety of situations. The RB5 can operate at 6VDC or 12VDC, and it has a current draw of just 120mA. The contacts are rated at 5 Amps at 220VAC or 28VDC, and are Double Pole, Double Throw (DPDT).

The RB5 is perfect for use on 12 Volt systems where the bell output doesn’t provide quite enough current for the number of devices you want to power. In this case, trigger the RB5 using the bell output, then add a power supply, such as the Altronix SMP3 or the Honeywell AD12612, thus allowing the RB5 to switch power from the power supply for sounders or other annunciating devices in the field. The device has an operating temperature of -13°F - +131°F (-25°C -+55°C), ambient temperature.

This is just one example of how the Altronix RB5 can be used. It can be used to trigger a DVR to begin recording when a security alarm occurs, or to switch power on and off for a variety of different applications. When either 6VDC or 12VDC are applied to the positive and negative terminals on the RB5, depending on how dip switch 1 is set, both relays will switch from Normally Closed to Normally Open. This means that when no power is applied to those terminals, there is continuity between Common and Normally Closed, and when power is applied, continuity switches and is now between Common and Normally Open.

The RB5 relays are dry. This means that by themselves there is no power supplied by the relay. So, if you want to use the RB5 to switch power on and off for an application, you will need to add a power supply. We mentioned two (2) potential power supplies you can use above. The contact rating for the RB5 means that you can run up to 5 Amps of current, and up to 220 Volts AC, or 28 Volts DC, through BOTH relays without damaging them. Any more voltage or current than that and the relay could fuse and cease to operate. This means that each relay can support up to 2.5 Amps of current, and up to 110 Volts AC, or 12 Volts DC.
