The DSC MX916 is an addressable loop smoke and heat detector designed for the IQ Pro panels. All MX devices require an HSM3105 MX addressable loop module to be added to the IQ Pro. Once that module is in place, you can use these smokes and other MX devices on your IQ Pro. It has 3 modes of detection, optical, heat-enhanced optical, and fixed temperature of 200° F (93°C). This allows it to detect a wide range of fires from smoldering to flaming.
The IQ PRO comes in many variations. It is available in a metal or a plastic enclosure. It comes with either a Verizon, AT&T or Telus (Canada) Cellular LTE communicator. Along with PowerG wireless, it is also available with optional support for various legacy wireless frequencies. One option for expansion is using the MX addressable loop. Add the HSM3105 to begin working with the MX addressable loop devices.
The MX916 is suitable for both residential or commercial applications. It utilizes the optical detection method for smoke, also known as photo-electric. This detection method, uses an internal infrared light. When smoke particles enter the chamber, the light is scattered and then can be detected by the photodiode light receptor. This detection method tends to be the most reliable as it is less prone to false detection. It can also utilize a heat enhanced optical mode. This mode uses thermal assistance to the photo chamber to provide enhanced false alarm immunity.
Typically, IQ Pro panels that are utilizing the MX addressable loop will be in very large homes, businesses, schools, churches, or hospitals.
The MXBASE is NOT included with the MX916 smoke/heat detector but is required. The MXBASE must be purchased separately. The 4" base is the same for the MX916, MX926, and MX936. All wiring connections are made to the base. Then, you align the detector with the base and rotate it clockwise to seat the detector head. Finally, place the detector locking pin to prevent the detector from rotating out of place. Be sure to remove the dust cover once installation is complete. We do offer these in a kit MX916KT. Each kit contains one (1) MX916, along with one (1) MXBASE.
The detectors should be wired into the IQ Pro's MX loop before powering on and starting the auto-enroll process. You will also have the option to change any default settings using the IQ Pro Installer app, available for Apple and Android devices. With the installer app, you can adjust whether the LED will blink during polling, as well as the smoke sensitivity settings. For LED blinking during poll, you have LED ON and LED OFF settings. Smoke sensitivity options include low, medium, or high settings. Threshold compensation and Supervision are hardcoded settings that can not be changed.
