Description

NOTE: Anyone with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus should get a PowerG Image Sensor instead of the Qolsys QZ8103-840. This is because the QZ813103-840 requires the addition of the Qolsys IQ Card-IS, which uses the same antenna as the PowerG Daughtercard for the IQ Panel 2 Plus. The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus can readily support PowerG Image Sensors, with no additional add-ons being required. The PowerG Image Sensors will also work with Alarm.com, just like the QZ8103-840 Image Sensor. Only get the Qolsys QZ8103-840 Image Sensor if you have an original Qolsys IQ Panel 2 with a Qolsys IQ Card-IS installed.

The Qolsys IQ Image Sensor gives you the safety of both a motion sensor and live images all in one unit. This device can pair with your IQ Panel for optimal security and is easy to install. Keep any room in your house under surveillance with this unique sensor. Please note that you will need the Qolsys IQ Card-IS to enroll image sensors with the Qolsys IQ Panel 2.

Features and Benefits

You can enroll up to five Qolsys IQ Image Sensors to your IQ Panel to keep your whole home safe. Your Image Sensor will alert you to motion in the area. It can detect motion within 30 feet, so even your largest spaces can stay secure.

Each Image Sensor will also take regular pictures that you can check with your email, text, or Alarm.com app. The sensors come equipped with five low-light emitters. This feature allows you to get clear images, even if the area is completely dark.

You can peek in the monitored area any time you want. Look in from time to time or wait until something triggers the motion alarm; it’s up to you. However, you don’t have to worry about your small pets setting off the motion detector. The Image Sensor is pet immune for up to 40 pounds.

This sensor connects to your IQ Panel using 900 Mhz. You can install it in many different places throughout your home. Whether you prefer corners or on a flat wall, this versatile unit can adjust incrementally to fit your unique needs.

Technical Specifications

The Qolsys IQ Image Sensor is an unassuming size at 3.1"H x 1.8"W x 2.3"D so that it can fit in most any place. It can detect motion up to 30 feet away when you install it at a normal height. If you install the sensor particularly high, it can reach 35 feet away. A low installation will drop the range to about 25 feet.

This sensor is configurable so that you can choose the sensitivity and other settings. This feature is particularly important if you have pets that could otherwise set off the motion sensor.

Any time the motion sensor is tripped, the Image Sensor will automatically take pictures and send them to you. This image sensor produces high-quality photos thanks to its night vision illumination. You will receive stills in 320x240 resolution.

The wireless signal range on the Image Sensor is 400 feet through the open air. You should keep the sensor in conditions between 32 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit, or zero to 43 degrees Celsius for non-pet applications. If using with a pet, the low should be 60 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 degrees Celsius.

This sensor runs on two AA 1.5V lithium batteries. With typical use, the batteries can last up to two years.

Installation

The first step in installing the Qolsys IQ Image Sensor is the choose the perfect place to put it. Corners above doors or away from windows typically make great places to mount this sensor. You may also decide to install this device on a flat part of the wall at least 7.5 feet high.

You should avoid mounting the Image Sensor near air ducts and ceiling fans. These features may cause malfunctions. Installing the sensor too low could cause a reduction in quality as well. When you’ve chosen the right spot, slide the back cover to open the casing.

Then, use the markings on the mount of the device to choose a mounting angle. You can determine the correct angle with the height of installation and the distance you wish to monitor. Once you’ve chosen an angle, use the included hardware to secure the mount to the device.

After you’ve secured the mount, you can replace the back cover. Just align the lid and slide it up the device. Next, you will choose between the corner and flat post mounts based on your desired installation location and secure it to the wall.

Finally, slide the device into the mounting post on the wall. Be sure that you insert the device in the angle you want for optimal monitoring. Finally, check that the device is firmly in place. Once the Image Sensor is in place, it’s time to add it to your IQ Panel.

Enroll in IQ Panel

To register your new Image Sensor into your IQ Panel, first put the panel into “Auto Learn” mode. Different IQ Panels may do require individual steps to accomplish this. Refer to your panel’s instructions for details on this step.

Next, insert the batteries into your Image Sensor. This action will send a signal that the IQ Panel can pick up to begin the enrollment process. Go back to your IQ Panel to click “Add” when the name appears. From here, you can use your panel to customize settings and the sensor’s name.

Nice Image Sensor

The Qolsys QZ8103-840, also known as the Qolsys Image Sensor, is designed to confirm break-ins and fires. The device is basically a motion sensor combined with a camera. When the device detects movement, it will snap a photo and send it to both the panel and Alarm.com. You can then check the panel or Alarm.com to view the image that was produced. Being able to check the image from Alarm.com is particularly useful, as you can do so from pretty much anywhere. It must be mentioned that you need a Qolsys CARD-IS installed inside your IQ Panel 2 to use this image sensor. But because of its excellent benefits, we give the Qolsys Image Sensor a 5 Star rating.

There are many things to like about the Qolsys Image Sensor. It is great for confirming intrusions and fires. Our techs have found that it works very reliably. And being able to check images from Alarm.com is very convenient and great while you're away. The sensor is a great alternative to buying Alarm.com IP Cameras and paying extra every month for video surveillance.

However, we must also mention the downsides to the Qolsys Image Sensor. For one, you need to install a Qolsys CARD-IS inside your IQ Panel 2 System. If you have a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. The CARD-IS uses the same antenna as the PowerG Daughtercard for supporting PowerG Wireless Sensors. Although you can technically have both the CARD-IS and the PowerG Daughtercard installed inside the system at the same time, you can really only use one at a time in practice. If you have an IQ Panel 2 Plus, it is a much better decision to just get a PowerG Image Sensor rather than trying to make the Qolsys Image Sensor work. Finally, the Qolsys Image Sensor uses two (2) lithium AA batteries. With typical use, they last for two (2) years. This means that you will occasionally need to buy new batteries and replace them.

Good: Confirms System Events, View Images from Panel & Alarm.com, Works Reliably

Bad: Requires CARD-IS, Uses Batteries

Bottom Line: 5 Stars
