Description
In this video, Dylan from Alarm Grid shows you how to arm the 2GIG Edge in Away Mode. This arming option is used when all occupants of the protected premises are leaving. Typically, the last one to leave arms the system in this mode. In Away Mode, all zones are active, including interior zones, such as motion detectors. After watching this video, you will know how to arm the system in Away Mode using the panel, a remote keypad, or a key fob, and the behavior to expect from the panel when arming and disarming.

There is a surprising amount of information that goes along with properly arming any security system, including the 2GIG Edge. From setting the proper entry and exit delay periods that are not too long, but not too short, to understanding the difference between arming Away or Stay, it's no wonder people are often intimidated by their alarm panel. Our videos are meant to take the mystery out of using your system.
After watching this video, you'll know what to expect when arming and disarming your 2GIG Edge system. Dylan shows you how to arm and disarm using the panel touchscreen, the PAD1-345 wireless push button keypad, and a wireless key fob. You'll see what to expect from exit and entry delay. He even shows you what happens if you fail to disarm the system after walking through an entry door. This should take a lot of the mystery out of using the 2GIG Edge.

[AUDIO LOGO] Hey, DIYers. Dylan here with Alarm Grid. Today, we're going to review how to set your 2-gig edge system to arm away. What arm away does is that if everyone is going to be outside of the home or in business, everything within the location will be active, including motion sensors. So this is basically just telling the alarm system no one's going to be here. Have our motion sensors active.
And then this will just act as-- while the system is armed, if anything is triggered during that, it will set off the alarm and send a signal out to a monitoring station if you are connected with one. So we'll review how to arm the system. We'll watch what happens when that is armed, and then we'll watch what happens if an alarm is triggered.
All right, so we have the 2-gig panel here. This is our home screen. Now to arm away. Fairly simple. We have the arm away option right there. So we have the system ready to arm. That means doors, windows, and things like that are closed. If not, I'll open our front door here. You'll see we don't have any arming options, unless we bypass the sensor. If you bypass the sensor, that means that the system is going to ignore it. So even if it's triggered while the system is armed, nothing happens.
So to arm away. Simple as that. You just press arm away. It's going to give us our countdown. So this is the time that we're going to leave the house or the business. So even if you fault the sensor during this, that's set to an entry and exit zone. Nothing happens. It's still going to count down. We'll just wait for that to go all the way down. Now just real quick. So like I mentioned, entry and exit will not trigger the alarm. But say if I opened a window, which is usually set to perimeter, or if I open a door that's set to perimeter, that will trigger the alarm even while it's counting down.
[BEEPING]
System armed away.
OK, so we have systems armed away. So this means that the system is armed. Any motion sensors you have will be active because there's going to be no one in the home. Now, when you're coming back, either you can disarm remotely through alarm.com. But say if you don't have this set up with alarm.com and you just open your front door, which I'll do here-- OK, I opened my front door. It's going to give us the entry delay for that. And you want to enter in your master code to disarm. Oops.
System designed. Ready to arm.
All right, so the system is disarmed. If you do not enter that disarm code within that time, then that's going to trigger the alarm. And then again, if you're monitored, a signal will be sent out. If not, you're just going to have a loud siren going off locally. And in that case, you'll still want to disarm. So what we can do here real quick is just actually show that. So I'll arm away again.
Exit now.
We'll just wait for that to arm.
System armed away.
All right, so the system is armed away. And again, if you don't have alarm.com or if you don't have a key fob to disarm before you open a door, and you just open a door, it's going to give us our countdown here.
[BEEPING]
I'm just going to allow this to go into full alarm mode so you can see how to disarm during that.
How long do you have to wait?
Let me check. Usually, the entry delay is about 30 seconds. You can edit that from the programming. All right, so OK. So that was the alarm. Now that transmission delay that we saw before, that is this error right here or this notice right here. If you disarm quick enough when that alarm goes off, no signal will be sent out. That way, you avoid any false alarms. This is going to show us the alarm history. I'm going to clear it. And then we're back to ready to arm.
OK, so we showed how to arm away from the panel itself. Now I'm going to show you how to arm through the push button keypad. If you have the touchscreen keypad for the 2-gig edge, the process is going to be the same as it's going to essentially just be the same screen. So to arm away on the push button keypad, you simply just press and hold away. It's going to give us our countdown. I'm going to open and close the front door. That way, once the panel goes into fully armed, it's going to go to arm away.
System armed away.
OK, so panel is now armed. So we can either disarm from the panel here. I'm going to show you how to disarm from this keypad. Enter your master code. We haven't changed ours. So it's still the default 1111. Now, when you're using this keypad, you don't want to press the buttons to quickly. Essentially, when you press a button, it's going to light up the light here. When that light turns off, then continue on with the next button, and so on and so forth. So 1111.
System disarmed.
System disarmed. Now, if we're using a key fob, the icon of the person walking out the door that is arm away. So we're going to press and hold that.
Armed away. Exit now.
OK, open and close our door.
System armed away.
OK, system is armed away. And now again, we can either disarm from the panel, the keypad, or by using the fob. We're just going to press the unlock padlock button. Press and hold.
System disarmed.
And systems disarmed. OK, so that is how you set your system to arm away. We test it with our door sensor. Again with your door sensor, we had it set to entry/exit. When you set the system to arm away, you have that time to leave through the entry/exit door. When that is triggered, it won't set off the alarm during the countdown, but it's going to let the system know that you actually did leave the premises. And the system will then be set to arm away.
Then we watch what happens when you return. If you don't disarm through either alarm.com or a key fob, when you open that door again, it's going to trigger the entry delay. And if you don't disarm within that amount of time, your alarm will set off. By default, that entry delay is about 30 seconds, but you can change it in programming.
