In this video, Michael from Alarm Grid shows you how to add a new Z-Wave device to a Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS Alarm System. This process may also be referred to as pairing or enrolling a Z-Wave device. The Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS has a PROWIFIZW module installed inside so that it can readily support Z-Wave devices. The same is also true for the Resideo PROA7PLUSC. But the other ProSeries Panels, which are the PROA7 and PROA7C, do not have the PROWIFIZW installed by default, and you must add it to one of those system is you want to use it for Z-Wave automation and smart home control. All four (4) ProSeries Panels follow the same general process for adding and deleting Z-Wave devices.

After you pair a Z-Wave device with a PROA7PLUS, you will be able to control that device from the main panel, as well as from any PROWLTOUCH or PROWLTOUCHC Keypads that have been added. Additionally, if the system is monitored with a plan that includes automation, then you will also be able to operate paired Z-Wave devices remotely from Total Connect 2.0. This can be done using a compatible web browser or a mobile app on your phone. Total connect 2.0 also allows you to create smart scene automations so that your paired Z-Wave devices can activate automatically based on a set schedule and/or with predetermined system events.

All sorts of Z-Wave devices can be paired with a PROA7PLUS or othe ProSeries Panel with a PROWIFIZW installed. Examples of Z-Wave devices you might use with the PROA7PLUS include smart lights, door locks, smart thermostats, emergency water valves, and even smart garage door controllers. It is recommended that you first clear a new Z-Wave device from a Z-Wave network before adding it in. That way, you can be sure that no residual Z-Wave network data remains inside the sensor, which is very important for ensuring successful device enrollment.

Hi, DIYers. This is Michael from Alarm Grid and today I'm going to be showing you how to add a Z-Wave device to a Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS security system. This also applies to the other Pro Series alarm panels from Honeywell Home and Resideo. One thing to keep in mind, though, you need to have a Honeywell Home PROWIFIZW installed inside your Pro Series panel. The PROA7PLUS 7, which I have up here, and the Resideo PROA7PLUSC both include the PROWIFIZW already by default. But if you're using Honeywell Home PROA7 or Resideo PROA7C, then you will need to add that module to the system The PROWIFIZW, it's both a Wi-Fi card and, for our purposes, it is a Z-Wave Plus controller, a 500 series Z-Wave controller. And since Z-Wave is always backwards compatible, you'll be able to use the future 700 series Z-Wave devices, as well as the older, classic Z-Wave devices, the 300 series devices. You'll be able to enroll them all with your PROA7PLUS security system or other Pro Series panel with the PROWIFIZW. But for best results, if you can use, the Z-Wave Plus 500 series, the Z-wave Plus devices, because they will offer the best wireless range and battery life. Just something to keep in mind. If you've got some older Z-Wave devices, that's all right as well. But we have a couple of Z-Wave devices today. We have some lighting modules that I will be setting up with the system. We're going to be clearing them from the system first to wipe out any residual Z-Wave network data that may be inside them. And then we're going to be adding them to the system over there. Let's get into it today. We're going to get into the Z-Wave device's management manual. We're starting from the main screen of the PROA7PLUS and then we're going to press the small hamburger button, the three horizontal bars button at the bottom, and we're going to choose devices, and we're going to choose Z-Wave management. And then from here we can use our installer code or our master code. We're going to use our master code for this one. And ours is at the default. We usually change this code but we have ours at the default. And it's one, two, three, four. We see we're at the Z-Wave management menu and we're going to add these devices one at a time. And just so you know, one is an older Z-Wave classic module, a 300 series, and another one is a Z-Wave Plus module with S2 security so it's going to give us an extra step when we do that one. But we're going to do the older one first. This is just a Leviton lighting module. Here you see right now it's on, the LED is lit up. But we're going to exclude it from the network first to wipe out any residual Z-Wave network data and then we're going to add it in. Clearing a device first is always a good practice, even if it's brand new, it might have some Z-Wave network data from the factory so it's just good practice to do that. We're at the Z-Wave management screen. We're going to choose exclusion mode. And actually, before I do this, I do want to show you one thing. I want to show you that we don't have any enrolled Z-Wave devices right now, we're starting blank. So, just to show that we have nothing up our sleeves, so to speak, nothing on the system right now. But let's go into exclusion mode. And right now the device is listening for a Z-Wave signal to come in so it can clear it from the network. Even if the device is not actively paired with the network, you can still do this. I'm going to show you that right now. We just press the inclusion/exclusion button on the device, and you see that we have a device excluded from the network. Depending on the Z-Wave device you're working with, it may follow a different process. If you're using a Z-Wave lock, for instance, you might have to enter in a specific code. So refer to the manual for your Z-wave device. Luckily in our case, we just have a button that we press. And then we're going to click done. And now I'm going to go to inclusion mode. And I'm going to do the same thing on the device because it uses the same process for inclusion and exclusion. We press the button. We press the button. And there we go, device is found. There! You see we added a non-secured security level, this is just a basic Z-Wave device, Z-Wave classic, so to speak. It's on Node number 13. It's from Leviton, which you see this is from Leviton. This is the device right there. We're just to click done. And then let's look at enrolled devices and you see that we have a device one. And right now it is on. You see the LED on it is lit up. If we press the button here, we can turn it off. And you see the LED turns off, we can control it right from here. And while I'm thinking about it, I do want to mention that you'll also be able to control your Z-Wave devices from Total Connect 2.0. If your system is monitored, you can access that using a compatible web browser or the Total Connect 2.0 mobile app. That can be good for controlling your Z-wave devices remotely. If the system is monitoring, the Z-Wave device will be automatically pushed over to Total Connect so we can control it from there as well. And that's also good for smart scenes, if we want to have the devices respond automatically based on a schedule or certain system events. But let's show you a smarter Z-Wave device, a 500 series device. I think this is a Qolsys lighting module, a dimmer model actually. But let's go into exclusion mode. We're going to clear it from the network first. We're going to press this button on the device. And you see we have a device excluded. We're going to click done. And then we're going to go to inclusion mode and we're going to do the same thing. We're just going to press the button, and we've got the device found. And now we have to enter the device pin because this is a smart Z-Wave device. We're going to enter the first five digits of the device's DSK code, 20496. So let's go ahead and enter that, 20496. And we'll do save. And there we go. It's including with the network. It takes a second. I might press done anyway to see if that speeds it up. Now let's try doing done, let's try including it again. It doesn't seem to be wanting to go through. Let's try that one more time. We'll go to Inclusion mode and we'll press the button. Device found, and there we go. We've got the device included. Sometimes you may have to do something like that if the controller is being a bit wonky, so to speak. But you see it got on node 14. It is a Qolsys dimmer. So we'll go ahead and we'll press done. And then let's go to enroll devices. And you see now we have our dimmer number two on here. We can go ahead and control it, we can set the level on there. This is a dimmer module so we can set the level of lighting that we want. This one doesn't give as much of a response as the other one. The other one had the LED on it. But you see that we've enrolled our Z-Wave devices. That's pretty much all you have to do. You clear the devices from the network first and then you go and enroll them. That is how you add a Z-Wave device to your Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS security system. Remember the other Pro Series alarm panels will follow the same process. You just need that PROWIFIZW installed. And remember that if your system is monitored with automation from Total Connect 2.0, you'll be able to control your Z-Wave devices from that platform as well.
