Description

In this video, Jarrett shows users how to update the firmware on a Honeywell Lyric Controller through the USB port. The proper files must be transferred to a USB drive, and the USB drive must be inserted into the Lyric Controller. The update will begin automatically once the user enters programming.

In most cases, a user will update the Lyric System by simply requesting the latest firmware from the AlarmNet360 Servers. This will require that the Lyric System has active service with an alarm monitoring company. The user will need to access the Installer Tools Menu and press the "Update Firmware" button. The Lyric will request the latest firmware from AlarmNet360. If a firmware update is available, the system will reboot to apply the update. This may take a few moments.

Updating through the USB port is an alternative method for making system firmware changes. However, this method is less commonly used. In order to perform a USB firmware update, the user must obtain specific files that are only available from an alarm monitoring company. The user must request the files from their monitoring service provider. They must then load them onto the root directory of the USB drive.

There are two files needed to complete the process. These two files include one .manifest file and one firmware file. The firmware file must be zipped with a .tar.gz file formate. It should remain in its compressed state for the update. For best results, these should be the only files on the USB drive. Before applying the update, you should have the Lyric in a disarmed state with no trouble conditions. This includes a low system battery. Once the user enters into Installer Programming, the system will reboot and the update will be applied. Alternatively, a manual system reboot can be performed.

Note: In this example, the "update" went through very quickly because the panel being used was already on the latest firmware version. Had it not been, the process would have taken several minutes. Verify with your alarm dealer what the full firmware version should be once the update has been completed.

Hi, DIYers. Jarrett with Alarm Grid here. Today, we're going to be updating the Honeywell Lyric system through the USB port. Yes, you can update the Lyric system through the USB port. In order to be able to do this update, your system does need to be registered inactive with an AlertNet 360 account. Any type of firmware update that happens to the Lyric system, there is a specific key file that is required for them to run successfully. You cannot get the update file without your system being registered with an AlertNet 360 account. The update file is generated in the AlertNet 360, and it is based off of the MAC address of the Honeywell Lyric system. So if it is not able to be updated over the air, through the alarm dealer, then you can request for the specific files from them, and they'll be able to give that to you. They will be giving you two files. One file is going be a manifest file. The second file is going to be compressed file. So what you're going to do is take a USB drive, and you're going to create a folder in the root directory of that USB drive called Update. It cannot be called Updates. So you're going to take those two files and you're going to put them inside of that folder Update. Now it is preferred that there are no other files on that USB drive, besides that one update folder. So before you run the update, you're going to want to confirm what firmware version your Lyric system is on. So in order to do that, you're going to press Security, you're going to press Tools, and you're going to type in the master code. The default master code is 1234. Once you've done that, then you're going to press Advance. And in the top left, you'll see System Information. So you're going to press that. And in the window, to find the firmware version that your system is on, it's going to be on the top right under Rev, R-E-V. Our Lyric system is on the current firmware already. But for demonstration purposes, we are going to be updating the Lyric system for you. So the firmware version that we have is 01.07.07648.491. Once you've confirmed that, you're going to press OK. You're going to hit the Home button to go back to the home screen. Now, the next step is to begin the update on the Honeywell Lyric system. In order to do that, you're going to want to confirm that there are no troubles on the Honeywell Lyric. And that does include a low battery. So in order to do that, or once you've confirmed that, you're going to want to plug in your USB drive to the USB port of the Honeywell Lyric system. The USB port is located on the bottom of the Lyric right here. So you're going to take you're USB drive. you're going to plug it into the bottom. And to begin the update, you're going to press Security. You're going to press Tools. And you're going to type in the installer code. The default installer code is 4112. Now, when you get into this next menu, it should take you back to the home screen to begin the update. And your system will reboot. It takes about five to 10 minutes for the system to reboot. And you do want to keep your USB drive in the Lyric system while it's rebooting. And once it says Ready To Arm at the top, you can take the USB drive out. And you're going to want to check the firmware version that the Honeywell letter system is on, and make sure that it has completely done the update. So you're going to press Security, and you're going to press Tools. And this time, you're going to type in the master code. Default master code is 1234. Once you've done that, then you're going to press Advanced. And you're going to go back to System Information. And if it has updated successfully, you will see the current firmware version up on the top right, where it says Rev, R-E-V. The current firmware version that we have out right now is 01.0707648.491. So once you've confirmed that, you're going to press OK. Then you can just hit the Home button and go back to the home screen. And that is how you update the Honeywell Lyric through the USB port.
