Honeywell's 5800 Series Smoke Detectors offer a simple solution for protecting your home or business. Forget running wires which are expensive and next to impossible in some environments. Devices like the 5808W3 make it easy to add smoke protection in areas where existing wired smokes were not installed. Any addition or renovation should have a 5800 Series Wireless Smoke Detector that uses the newest photoelectric technology.

Honeywell 5800 Smoke Detectors are commonly used with many security systems. These are fire-safety devices that alert systems to fires. A 5800 Smoke Detector will activate upon detecting smoke in the building. Many of these sensors also include heat detection capabilities and will respond to unusually high temperatures that would only be present during a fire. Others include freeze detection for alerting the system to a broken HVAC system that could cause the pipes to freeze. Overall these sensors offer many great functions that make them important additions to alarm panels.

All Honeywell 5800 Smoke Detectors share many common characteristics. They are all uni-directional sensors that operate at a frequency of 345 MHz. These are photoelectric smoke detectors that offer effective and reliable fire detection. Photoelectric detectors tend to work more reliably than ionization smoke detectors that are also commonly used. There are many systems that you can use 5800 Smoke Detectors with, including the Honeywell Lyric Controller, Honeywell LYNX Touch Systems, and Honeywell VISTA Systems with an added wireless receiver. These sensors are part of the Honeywell 5800 Series lineup, which includes all types of security and life-safety sensors.

There are three (3) devices in the Honeywell 5800 Smoke Detector lineup. These are the Honeywell 5806W3, the Honeywell 5808W3, and the Honeywell 5800COMBO. Of these, the 5806W3 is the standard device that just offers smoke detection. You can install it in large central areas and hallways for reliable fire detection. A built-in sounder helps ensure that building occupants are alerted in the event of a fire.

The Honeywell 5808W3 adds heat and freeze detection, in addition to the photoelectric smoke detection features of the Honeywell 5806W3. The heat sensor used fixed temperature detection technology that has the sensor activate upon detecting a temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The freeze sensor activates upon detecting a temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. You will need to program the sensor to two (2) separate zones for full functionality. One is for smoke and heat detection, and the other is for freeze detection. The 5800COMBO adds carbon monoxide (CO) gas detection, in addition to the features of a 5808W3. Again, you will need an additional system zone for CO detection.

One device that isn't technically part of the Honeywell 5800 Smoke Detector lineup but is often grouped in anyway is the Honeywell 5809SS. This is a wireless heat detector that is also part of the Honeywell 5800 Series. However, this device does not offer smoke detection function. This sensor is best-suited for areas where a standard smoke detector may result in false alarms. Some locations that are good for heat sensors like the 5809SS include bathrooms, garages and attics.
