While we always encourage central station service, some security system owners do not need or want a central station involved. Alarm Grid’s self monitoring plans are less expensive and allow access to the great features offered by Total Connect, Alarm.com, or Telguard without being connected to the central station. Additionally, aside from Self Bronze, all of Alarm Grid’s self monitoring plans allow remote access to the robust home automation options made available through a Z-Wave enabled security system. Whether you live in a region where central station service is not available or desired, self monitoring (offered world wide via internet communications) is a cost effective option for keeping you connected and up to date with your professional security system.

Alarm Grid is careful about who we support. While traditional advertising has asked the question, "what is good for the company," at Alarm Grid, we try to ask, "what can we support that will have the most impact both for us and for those who might want our services?" That's why we love Longform. A lot of Longform's listeners are young, computer savvy, and probably just hitting the age where a security system with monitoring might be something that would benefit you. So that's how this helps us. But our 2015 sponsoring of Longform's incredible podcast is also a way for us to give back to the a project that we find worthwhile. Longform is journalistic, interesting, and has the potential to inspire a new generation of writers. While their site features some of the most interesting longform work available right now, their podcast spends a lot of time showing non-writers just how the proverbial, written "sausage is made." Highlighting the written works on their site has had an incredible effect on journalism, as far as we're concerned. In a world where newspapers are afraid do spend the money it takes to let writers do the good investigative work that is required to write a long piece, Longform has highlighted the best of those works, proving that there is a deep, un-satiated market longing for well-written, well researched pieces.

We're not too political here, but we do get a bit teary eyed when we see a company that is doing a really good job of inspiring people - moving them in a direction that is beneficial for everyone. So, sure, the ad-spot benefits us because now you know who we are. But our hope is that it benefited you insofar as it continues to let Longform do its good work.

Now that you're here, though, I guess we know a little something about you - namely that you are willing to read a lot of text. So forgive us for giving you a little bit more than you might normally chew on from a company. Let us tell you who we are, what we're all about, and why, if you need alarm monitoring you should consider us.

Who is Alarm Grid?

Alarm Grid is a young home security company. We exist because, frankly, traditional home security companies are broken. Their goal is to lock their customers into long-term contracts that have absolutely no benefit to the consumer. They offer free home security systems with the signing of a long-term contract, or proprietary systems that won't let you easily leave the company that designed the system. Their system; their monitoring.

Alarm Grid, on the other hand has no contracts. We do not offer free systems. If you need a new system, but can't afford to pay it outright, we strongly encourage you to work with our financing partner Affirm. Paying off a system purchased here over 12 months will significantly reduce the up-front burden for those who want the security but don't have the cash on-hand. Our monitoring prices are up front, and we have no gimmicks. We promise that there will not be even one weird fee that is suddenly sprung on you during your setup. Finally, our systems are not proprietary. We sell good-quality, Honeywell systems. Our systems are the same products that you would likely have installed if your system were put in by ADT. If you hate us, you can leave us. Alarm Grid's systems can be programmed to work with almost any security company. So before you think about getting that discount system, consider that if you don't like them, you are stuck since their system only works with their service.

What we're all about...

Alarm Grid is working to build the security company that you deserve. You deserve to be treated well. The reason we don't do contracts is because it's prevents us from resting on our laurels and forgetting that we are here for our customers.

If you want good service consider working with a company whose incentives are aligned with giving customer's good service. Because we are a no-contract service provider, the only thing we are interested in, is giving you good service.

So why you should choose Alarm Grid?

There are so many security companies out there. We're sure that you've found many of our competitors if you've looked at all. We promise that you will not find better, free service anywhere on the planet. Our sales team is no-commission. We work to make sure that you get the products that you need for your particular situation. We do not push product on you that you do not need or want. If you currently have a system, we can probably take it over. We will do our best to take it over rather than suggesting the purchase of a new system. We make our resources available everywhere, and we use the newest, state of the art equipment. When the Lyric Security system comes out (which is happening very soon), we will be the first DIY company to sell it. Right now, we are one of the nation's biggest sellers of Honeywell's most state-of-the-art wireless panels the L5200 and L7000. You can watch the YouTube videos that we have put together. If you have questions about how to use your system, we have answers. Our FAQs are robust, simple to use, and really really clearly written. So, while you can call in (888-818-7728) and get help or email support@alarmgrid.com any time, you probably won't have to.

Getting Started

  • Take account of what you need in your house. Windows and door sensors are the same thing.
  • Decide on what kind of communication you are interested in for your system. There are three: POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), IP, and GSM (cellular). POTS isn't used as much, since using it really requires that you have an old copper line setup. IP is generally the most popular, these days. And GSM is the most secure since it relies on cell towers whereas IP and POTS rely on a local connection that is supplied in a home by wire that could conceivably be cut. That said, it's important to note that GSM costs extra to have monitored each month. For Alarm Grid, it's $10/month extra for any of our plans.
  • Once you figure out what you want, go ahead and pick your wireless system. Our most popular L5200 kits are listed below:
    • Honeywell L5200PK-WIFI - 3 doors and window sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 4-button key fob, and 1 WIFI communicator.
    • Honeywell L5200PK10-WIFI - 10 doors and window sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 4-button key fob, and 1 WIFI communicator.
    • Honeywell L5200PK-4G - 3 doors and window sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 4-button key fob, and 1 4G cellular communicator.
    • Honeywell L5200PK10-4G - 10 doors and window sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 4-button key fob, and 1 4G cellular communicator.
    • Honeywell L5200PK-WIFI-4G - 3 doors and window sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 4-button key fob, and 1 4G cellular communicator, and 1 WIFI communicator. This is a dual path kit - probably the most secure.
    • Honeywell L5200PK10-WIFI-4G - 10 doors and window sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 4-button key fob, and 1 4G cellular communicator, and 1 WIFI communicator. This is a dual path kit with 10 door/window sensors - probably the most secure.
  • Once you order and receive your equipment, you should watch our videos on installing the system and programming the sensors using our youtube channel.
  • Finally, you're going to want to select your monitoring package. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and you'll see some options. Our base packages are $10, $15, and $20. Self-monitoring will give you the ability to get texts and email alerts from your security system but will not give you central station services. It will probably also not allow you to reap the benefits of a homeowners insurance discount that is likely possible to get if your home is monitored by a UL listed central station. Basic monitoring is exactly that - UL listed central station monitoring. However, basic monitoring does not give an user emails or text messages regarding the activity of the system. Monitoring plus gives you both the ability to control the system and receive email and text alerts from the system, in addition to the system itself being monitored by a central station.
  • Once you've signed up for monitoring, send us the information about your panel and communicator (there is a simple form to fill out on the other side of signup), and get scheduled for an activation call (there is a calendar there as well).
  • During your appointment, don't forget to mention that you heard about us from Longform!
