Description

The Interlogix 600-9400-IMAG-KIT is a combo kit that includes an Alarm.com Image Sensor and the compatible daughtercard for the Simon XT® (firmware revision 1.3), Simon XTi (1.5), Simon XTi-5, and Concord (4.0). If you already have the daughtercard the image sensor can be purchased separately. The 600-9400-IMAG Alarm.com image sensor consists of a passive infrared (PIR) motion detector with an integrated camera. When the motion sensor on the device is activated, the camera will take a picture and upload it to the Alarm.com server. A user can be notified of the image capture then access their Alarm.com app to view the image at any time. This sensor provides a quick and easy way to obtain a simple image when a motion sensor is tripped, without having to use a complete video monitoring plan. Many people use image sensors to verify that an intruder is present in their property, which makes them excellent for preventing false alarms and even better for tracking down an intruder after a break-in.

The PIR motion detector on the image sensor covers an area of 35 feet by 40 feet, making it great for use in homes and small businesses. It is ETL Certified, and the device is battery-operated for added reliability. The motion sensor features a configurable sensitivity setting, and it can even be set up for pet immunity if desired. As for the integrated camera, it produces full-color images, and night vision is supported using IR illumination. This ensures that crystal-clear photographs will be always be taken, even during the night. In terms of compatibility, the device can interface with any Interlogix Alarm System that has an active Alarm.com cellular module. The cellular module must have an attached image sensor daughterboard. The required daughterboard is included with this kit.

Whenever the PIR sensor is activated, the integrated camera will take a picture, and send the snapshot to the panel's Alarm.com cellular module. The communicator will then pass the image onto the Alarm.com server. If the user wants, they can also configure their Alarm.com account settings to have images sent to them through text and email alerts as well. Additionally, a user can access Alarm.com at any time and have the sensor take a picture of the area. This is possible even if the PIR motion sensor has not been activated. By using the Alarm.com Mobile App, this can be done from virtually anywhere. This feature is great for situations where you want to quickly check in on your home or business while you are away. Users will also appreciate the ease of installation for the device, as there is no broadband or router configuration required.

Note: This kit includes the daughterboard that is needed for the image sensor to sync with Alarm.com. Alarm Grid also offers a non-kit option that includes only the image sensor.

Good Image Sensor Kit
Submitted on 09/04/2019 Alarm Grid

The Interlogix 600-9400-IMAG-KIT is a fine image sensor combination kit that is ideal if you want to start using image sensors with your compatible Interlogix Alarm System. However, we generally find that Alarm.com Cameras work much more effectively than image sensors. But if you do decide that image sensors are right for you, then the one included in this kit works quite well. That is why we give it a four (4) star rating.

An image sensor basically consists of a still motion camera that is attached to a PIR motion sensor. Once the motion sensor detects movement, the attached camera will produce a quick photo and make it viewable from Alarm.com. The image can then be seen through the Alarm.com website or mobile app. The user can receive text and/or email alerts whenever an image is taken so that they know when to check for any suspicious activity. The resulting image will tell the user if something needs their attention, or if it was just a routine occurrence.

The Alarm.com Image Sensors produce decent images. They are not high resolution, but they are good enough for quickly identifying an emergency situation, such as a burglary or a fire. If you see something that is wrong, then you will know to call for help right away. This can be extremely useful if an emergency occurs while you are away from home. Many people living in Verified Response areas use image sensors to confirm intrusion and/or fire events so that proper dispatch can be requested.

Remember, you will also need to install the included Alarm.com Image Sensor Daughtercard to use this image sensor with your Interlogix System. This will require powering the panel down, and opening it up. The PIR motion sensor used with this image sensor works very well, as it offers a maximum coverage area of 35 feet by 40 feet. But keep in mind that you can get full-motion Alarm.com Security Cameras for the same monthly monitoring price as what is needed for an image sensor. Most users find that getting a camera is better for their needs.

Bottom line, image sensors are fine, and the Interlogix 600-9400-IMAG-KIT is exactly what you need if you want to start using an image sensor with your Interlogix Security System. But you might really consider going with security cameras instead. With that in mind, the Interlogix 600-9400-IMAG-KIT earns four stars.

Grant, you're welcome. I hope it truly was clear. When you get into Image Sensors, the water gets a little murky. If we can be of further assistance, feel free to send us an email at support@alarmgrid.com
Thank you very much for this clear reply. I appreciate your help! Grant
Hi Grant, how many of the internal image sensors do you have? Currently the only manufacturer that makes an outdoor one of these (that can interface with an alarm system) is DSC, in their PowerG line. These outdoor image sensors are compatible with all the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus systems. When/if the time comes to replace your Simon system, you can replace with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus that supports the 319.5 MHz frequency of your current Simon system wireless sensors. This FAQ covers the various panels and which Image Sensors are compatible with each, and what the hardware and software requirements are. The only drawback on these Qolsys panels is that you can use PowerG, or you can use the non-PowerG image sensors, but you can't do both. This is because both the PowerG wireless card, and the Image Sensor wireless card use the same antenna, and only one can be connected at a time. So, if you did decide to upgrade to the Qolsys panel, you'd need to replace your indoor image sensors with the PowerG version. https://www.alarmgrid.com/faq/image-sensor-compatibility-matrix
I have these in my system and they work great - I would like to find one that does the same Motion + Picture Still that works externally to my cabin. I do not have video / internet capability at this location and rely on a cell connection for the Interlogix Simon XT system.
