Description

The Telguard TG-7E-A is a dual-path capable communicator rated for commercial intrusion systems. It offers dual-path communication with ethernet as primary, AT&T LTE-M as backup, AT&T LTE-M as primary, and ethernet as backup, or AT&T LTE-M cellular as the sole transmission path. If the TG-7E-A is used as a secondary device with a POTS phone line or other option, then panel settings will determine the communication path priority between the TG-7E-A and the other available communication method.

As with many other Telguard communicators, the TG-7E-A uses dialer capture to receive signals from the panel and transmit them to a central station. It connects to the alarm panel through the panel's dialer interface. When the panel needs to send a signal, it attempts to call out via its dialer. The Telguard TG-7E-A provides the panel with a dial tone, the panel then assumes it's dialing out via a normal phone line. It dials a number, the TG-7E-A provides it with a handshake. The handshake tells the panel, "I'm ready to receive." The panel then transmits its signal or signals, and the TG-7E-A provides it with an acknowledgment, also called a kissoff. The kissoff tells the panel, "Message received successfully." In the meantime, the TG-7E-A is transmitting the captured signal to a monitoring station via the IP or AT&T LTE-M network where it will receive a similar acknowledgment.

An ethernet connection to the internet is considered quite reliable, but we all know that the internet connection can go down. This is much more likely to happen than a cellular outage. So, though ethernet is probably the faster communication method, AT&T LTE-M is the more reliable one. Choose the order of communication your TG-7E-A uses based on your experience with the cellular and internet connections at your location. AT&T LTE-M is considered to be very reliable and has good coverage all over the United States and even in parts of Canada.
