Description
The GE 12723 from Jasco is a smart in-wall switch that allows for 3-way or 4-way control over your other GE In-Wall Devices. This include In-Wall Switches, In-Wall Dimmers, and In-Wall Fan Controls. The Add-On Switch replaces the current switch and uses existing wiring in its setup.
A three-way wiring setup will let you control your devices from two different locations. Meanwhile, a four-way wiring setup will let you control your devices from three different locations. A traveler wire is needed to complete the setup and connect the master switches to the 3-Way Add-On Switch. Make sure to cut power at the breaker before attempting to install the In-Wall 3-Way Add-On Switch.
Remember, the Add-On Switch is not a load-bearing switch. Instead, it is used with GE load-bearing switches that are used to control the lights or ceiling fans. The Add-On Switch can be used with nearly any lighting setup, including those featuring LED lights, CFL lights, incandescent lights, halogen lights, and hardwired lights. It can even be used with water pumps and ceiling fans.
A great aspect of the Add-On Switch is that it mirrors the functionality of the switch, dimmer, or fan control with which it is paired. All paired switches will perform the same functions for increased convenience. This way, you can perform the desired functions from multiple locations in your home. The Add-On Switch is also very easy to install, as it just uses three (3) connections. These are ground, neutral and traveler wires.
Just like the other in-wall smart switches in the GE lineup, the GE 12723 Add-On Switch can learn-in with your Z-Wave network. The device will strengthen your Z-Wave network, as other Z-Wave signals will be able to pass through the switch on their way to the intended destination. Remember, a Z-Wave signal can make four (4) "hops" on its way to the main hub. Keep this in mind when planning your Z-Wave setup. We recommend using a Z-Wave Plus controller with the GE 12723.
Another benefit of the GE 12723 is that it is compatible with Amazon Alexa for voice control. You will need an Alexa Hub for this purpose. The Add-On Switch has a power rating of 120VAC, 60Hz. The GE 12723 fits-in nicely with any single-gang in-wall socket. An included trim plate helps ensure a neat and clean installation.
