Description

The Honeywell Home PROWIFIZW serves as the WIFI card and Z-Wave Plus automation controller for the PROA7PLUS, PROA7PLUSC, PROA7, and PROA7C. The PLUS version panels already come with this module built-in, and it can easily be added to the non-plus versions to increase their capabilities. The PROWIFIZW can also be added to the Honeywell Home LTEM-PA and LTEM-PV, making these modules dual-path ready, even when a wired internet connection is not available. For details on LTEM-PA or LTEM-PV installation, see this FAQ.

Connecting to WIFI with the PROWIFIZW allows the system to communicate with AlarmNet and Total Connect 2.0. This is an essential aspect of setting up monitoring service. When an alarm occurs on the system, it will send a signal to the AlarmNet servers. AlarmNet then forwards the notification to the central station and/or Total Connect 2.0, depending on the user's monitoring plan. An operator at the central station can request emergency dispatch to the user's home or business, and a Total Connect 2.0 user can set up text and/or email alerts so that they are notified during alarm events.

Either way, it all comes down to the system being able to reliably send out signals when alarms occur. In addition to WIFI connectivity from the PROWIFIZW, many users will also add a cellular communicator like a Honeywell Home PROLTE-A (AT&T LTE) or a Honeywell Home PROLTE-V (Verizon LTE) for cellular backup in case the internet is down. Cellular connectivity is not included with the PROWIFIZW, so you must purchase a separate cellular communicator if you want cellular backup. But if you feel comfortable with WIFI only, then you can keep the PROWIFIZW as the system's sole communication module.

One important thing to note about the PROWIFIZW is that it only allows for connectivity with 2.4 GHz WIFI networks. You cannot use it to connect the system with 5 GHz WIFI networks. A ProSeries Panel also uses WIFI connectivity to interface with certain keypad devices. This is done by having both the panel and the keypad on the same local WIFI network and then completing a simple pairing process. An example of a keypad that uses WIFI to interface with the ProSeries Panels is the Honeywell Home PROWLTOUCH, which serves as a touchscreen keypad for the system.

But the PROWIFIZW isn't just used for WIFI connectivity. The module also serves as a Z-Wave Plus controller for the system so that you can begin building a home automation network. This can include devices like smart lights, door locks, thermostats, and more. You can control your connected smart home devices locally using the PROA7PLUS Panel or at an added PROWLTOUCH Keypad. And when you are away from your home or business, you can access Total Connect 2.0 through a web browser or a mobile app on your phone to control your Z-Wave devices from virtually anywhere in the world. You can also use Total Connect 2.0 to build smart scenes so that your programmed Z-Wave devices activate automatically on a set schedule or with predetermined system events. This is great for managing energy costs and living life efficiently!

If you are adding a PROWIFIZW to an LTEM-PA or LTEM-PV, you cannot use scenes. While the module will allow you the ability to add/remove and control Z-Wave, you cannot create smart scenes to automatically trigger actions to occur with your automation devices.

Note: The PROWIFIZW can also be used with the stripped-down Honeywell Home PROA7 Panel. It is compatible with all ProSeries Panels, including the PROA7, PROA7C, PROA7PLUS, and PROA7PLUSC.

Note: The Honeywell Home PROA7PLUS already includes a PROWIFIZW. This is merely a replacement module, if needed. Always make sure to power down the PROA7PLUS before making any hardware changes and installing the PROWIFIZW.

Note: Resideo also offers a version without Z-Wave functionality called the Honeywell Home PROWIFI. This is essentially a standalone WIFI card for the PROA7 and PROA7PLUS Systems. We recommend that version instead if you do not intend on setting up any Z-Wave devices with your Honeywell Home or Resideo ProSeries Alarm Panel.
