Description

The Honeywell IPCAM-PT2 is a second generation AlarmNet pan/tilt security camera. The Honeywell AlarmNet Cameras are great for integrating video into a Total Connect 2.0 account. The Total Connect video service offers remote live streaming, snapshots and video clips. You can you also view local live streams to a compatible Honeywell alarm system such as the LYNX Touch L5200 and L7000 panels at revision 7.00657+, the VISTA Automation Module (VAM), or the Tuxedo Touch (TUXWiFi) at revision 5.1.9.0 +.

If you enroll in Total Connect video service video recordings can be triggered motion and are stored on the cloud at the AlarmNet server. These clips can be downloaded using the app. This is a paid service so be sure to inquire with your Honeywell dealer for rates. Local streaming to your alarm system is free.

The newest member of the IPCAM line up offers higher resolution HD video up to 1280x720. Also the PT2 supports flash upgrades so as new software is developed you can update the product for free from TC. It will pan 320 degrees (160 degrees left and right) and tilt 120 degrees (90 degrees up and 30 degrees down). This can all be controlled remotely from Total Connect.

Like all other IPCAMs, there is an ethernet port and WIFI support via WPS. In order to enroll IPCAMs into a WIFI network your router must have a WPS button. If it does not have this button you can setup the WAP-PLUS as wireless access point for your video system. The WAP must be plugged directly into your router using an ethernet cable. Once the cameras are enrolled with your network you can provide the MAC address listed on the device to your AlarmNet dealer. They will add them to your account for remote viewing via TC.

Minimum Illumination is 0.5 lux. Unlike the IPCAM-WL night-vision camera, the PT2 does not have IR illuminators. However the cam does have white LEDs that can be turned on manually from TC or by an event trigger which can be configured by the end user on TC. The viewing distance with these white LEDs turned on is about 15 feet in a dark room. There is no audio on this device.

Good Legacy Camera
Submitted on 09/28/2020 Alarm Grid

The Honeywell IPCAM-PT2 is a legacy pan-tilt camera designed for use with Total Connect 2.0. By activating this camera, you will be able to access its live feed from the Total Connect 2.0 platform. You can also live-stream it from certain Honeywell Panels and touchscreen keypads. The main highlight of this camera is its ability to pan and tilt, which can be very useful for scanning an area and detecting activity that occurs. Pan and tilt functionality can be conveniently controlled from Total Connect 2.0. The camera is triggered and begins capturing clips once its integrated motion sensor detects movement. This is a fine camera, and we give it a 5-Star rating.

There are many things to like about the Honeywell IPCAM-PT2. Arguably its best feature is its ability to pan and tilt. This allows you to adjust where the camera is looking so that you can scan the area to search for activity. We appreciate the fact that you can live-stream this camera from both TC2 and compatible panels and keypads. The camera offers a nice recording resolution, which is basically the equivalent to 720p. The camera can be paired with an IP network across either ethernet or WIFI, which adds some flexibility in setup.

There are some downsides for the Honeywell IPCAM-PT2. As a legacy camera, the Honeywell IPCAM-PT2 had to be online when Honeywell pushed down a critical firmware update to make it compatible with their new HTML5 streaming platform. If the camera was not online to receive the update, then it can no longer be used with Total Connect 2.0. Another drawback for the Honeywell IPCAM-PT2 is the fact that it does not have IR illuminators. It does have white LED lights that can be manually triggered, but these don't really work quite as well. The fact that this camera lacks audio recording capabilities is also a downside. But the Honeywell IPCAM-PT2 is still pretty good for a legacy camera, and it is still used by many Total Connect 2.0 users to this day. It gets 5 Stars from Alarm Grid.

Good: Pan-Tilt, Live-Stream From TC2 and/or Compatible Panel/Keypad, 720p, WIFI or Ethernet Option

Bad: Will Not Work if Didn't Receive Critical Firmware Update, No IR Illuminators, No Audio Recording

Bottom Line: 5 Stars

Is this camera still being sold on Alarm Grid?
No, the camera isn't directly integrated into the security system and instead uses advance video analytics to start the recording based on a change in pixelation of the field of view. You have the option to mask off the view to only get recordings on motion in certain areas and there is a sensitivity selection as well to select how much motion the camera has to "see" to record a clip.
Does the Honeywell ipcam -pt start recording when you have an alarm trigger ?
