The Resideo Z5DIMMER Z-Wave Plus In-Wall Smart Dimmer is a switch that lets you turn your lights ON and OFF and adjust their brightness from anywhere. The device can replace nearly any standard dimmer switch to give you smart control over your lights. It pairs easily with a Z-Wave network.
Most end users can certainly install their own in-wall dimmer switch. Before getting started, make sure you cut power at the circuit breaker. Remove the existing in-wall dimmer switch, and install the Resideo Z5DIMMER in its place. The device can fit nicely into any single-gang bracket for easy installation. You can then pair the device with your Z-Wave network after you reapply power at the breaker. Remember to exclude the device from the network before attempting to enroll.
This smart dimmer can also be used with the Resideo Z53WSWITCH for operation from multiple on-site locations. Please note that you will need to connect a traveler wire if you intend on using the smart dimmer in a 3-way lighting configuration. You don't need to use a traveler wire if the device is just being used to control connected lights, without a 3-way configuration.
The real advantage to using the Resideo Z5DIMMER in place of a regular dimmer switch is the ability to use it with a Z-Wave network. This is great for using the lights with an interactive platform like Total Connect 2.0. By using TC2, you can create smart scenes for the lights to have them activate automatically based on certain system events or on a set schedule. You can even start using the light with a compatible voice assistant, like Amazon Alexa. The device is easy to pair with virtually any panel that supports Z-Wave technology. We recommend using a Z-Wave Pus controller for maximum wireless range.
While the Z5DIMMER was built with Resideo Panels in mind, it can be used with a variety of other security systems as well. It will work great with a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, 2GIG GC3e, or really any panel that supports Z-Wave communication. Many systems will allow you to control your Z-Wave devices right from the panel, so that can be a convenient option for many users.
You must also take specifications into consideration when using the Z5DIMMER. The device can support a maximum load of 600W for incandescent bulbs, and 150W for dimmable CFL and LED bulbs. You do need to connect a neutral wire when setting up the Z5DIMMER. Other features include a power shutoff switch, a manual on/off switch, and up to 150 feet of wireless Z-Wave range by using signal hops through other z-Wave Plus devices. It uses screw terminals for connections.
