System Sensor RRS-MOD

Reversing Polarity and Synchronization Module

Average rating:

(based upon 0 reviews)

The System Sensor RRS-MOD is a reversing polarity relay used to cause all two-wire or four-wire smoke detectors with sounders on a system to sound when a fire alarm is indicated. In addition to reversing polarity so that all of the smoke detectors sound, it also acts as a synchronization module, synchronizing the sounding of the fire alarm siren and the smoke detectors so that they all sound together. Description

Having all two or four-wire smoke detectors sound in the event of a fire alarm may be required by the building code in a particular area. It may be required by an insurance carrier, a fire marshall, or another AHJ (Agency Having Jurisdiction). It may also be that the homeowner or business owner simply wants them all to sound. Whatever the reason, the RRS-MOD is a popular way to achieve this goal.

The RRS-MOD is made by System Sensor to work with their i3™ two-wire and four-wire smoke detectors. Bear in mind, the RRS-MOD is only necessary when smokes with sounders are used. It helps to understand how System Sensor part numbers are chosen. For example, the System Sensor 2WTA-B is a two-wire (2W) with a thermal or heat detector( T) and an annunciator or sounder (A), and it is Normally Open, which means it is wired as a Class (B) circuit. So if you're shopping for smoke detectors, and you want a setup where smokes all over the premises sound, in addition to the RRS-MOD, be sure to choose smokes that have an annunciator, otherwise known as a sounder.

Connecting the RRS-MOD into your smoke detector circuit can be tricky for the DIY installer. We have a number of different documents to assist you in this. If you have a VISTA-20P, or a VISTA-21iPLTE you can use the following documents according to your application:

*When using 4-wire smokes, it is always recommended that you use an end-of-line-supervision-relay (EOLSR). This is so that if the 4-wire smoke zone loses power, the end-user will be notified immediately. Without the EOLSR, a loss of power to the 4-wire smoke detector zone may go unnoticed, putting lives at risk.
