Image Sensor and Alarm Panel Compatibility
Image Sensor and Alarm Panel Compatibility
Hi, DIY-ers. Joe from AlarmGrid. And today, we're going to talk about which image sensors are compatible with alarm panel. Now, before we begin, there is a whole bunch of image sensors and they're all compatible with different panels. Connected to this video, we have a matrix that's going to show you which image sensor is compatible with which panel. I highly, highly recommend going and checking that out before you go and purchase an image sensor for panel that you have because there's a good chance that you may get the wrong one and it's going to be annoying to return it to get the correct one. But just to go over what image sensors are, I have two examples right here. We have the Interlogix image sensor, and we have the 2GIG image sensor. You can see, they look basically the same. They do the same thing. What these do is these are PIR motion detectors that have a camera built into them. They're really cool devices as when they detect motion, they're going to snap a picture or however you have it configured, it's going to upload it to alarm.com, we're actually going to be able to look at that picture on your app. You're also going to be able to have them take a picture and you can be able to view that from wherever you are. So if you want to see what's going on in an area, you can use these to do that. They're not as robust as a camera, but they kind of serve a different function as it's more of a motion detection device with a picture camera built into it. So if you are looking for live video or streaming such as that, you're going to want to go with the video solutions. But these are really great as if you have a sensitive area that you want monitored by motion, and you also want to see what's going on there when something happens, these are perfect for you. | just going to want to make sure that the panel that you have supports image sensors and that the image sensor that you get is the correct one to use for that panel. All the panels out there that support image sensors, most of them support a different amount of image sensors. So if you are installing a new panel in a location and you do plan to use image sensors with it, you're going to want to make sure that you check out how many image sensors the panel can support before installing it to make sure it's going to work for your application. Just going off the top of my head, Interlogix panels such as the Simon panels, and the Concord, and also the DSC panels, the Impassa, and the Neo, they're only going to be able to support three image sensors total. So if you're buying one of those, make sure that three image sensors will do what you need. If you have a 2GIG Go!Control, an Qolsys IQ Panel or Qolsys IQ2, those can support up to five image sensors. So again, if that works for you, then definitely go with that. But if you do need more image sensors for your location, the 2GIG GC3 can support up to 10 image sensors, which is a lot of image sensors and it should more than suffice for what you're looking to protect. Again, all these panels though, they all are compatible with different image sensors, and in many cases, you're going to need a proper daughterboard or a proper module for the panel to work with it. And one that can be particularly troublesome is the IQ2 Panel, as those, the daughterboard inside of them that uses the image sensor and allows you to connect to an image sensor, also is the same connection that can let you connect to PowerG devices. So if you have an IQ2 and using PowerG devices, you won't be able to support those devices at the same time as connecting image sensors to the panel. So this would have to be a decision that you make before installing everything. Do I want PowerG or do I want image sensors? For these reasons, it's really important that you do your research and you figure out what the panel can support, what you're looking to do, and that you get the right image sensors for the panel. If you do have any questions about this though, and I'm sure you will, please, please reach out to us and we'll absolutely be able to help you figure out what panel you have, what you'll have to do to make it compatible for image sensors if that need is there, and how many image sensors are compatible for your panel. We will be happy to help you out. So if you do have any questions about this, image sensors, alarm systems, in general, feel free to give us a call at 888-818-7728.
