ECP DEVICES - RULES OF WIRING AND ADDRESSING
VISTA-20P/21iP Family
Connect keypads and other addressable devices (4204, 4219, 4229, 4286, 5881, LRR, etc.)
to the control’s keypad terminals as shown on the Summary of Connections diagram. The
system supports up to 8 keypads and 4 AUI cons
oles, which can be assi
gned to partitions in
any combination. Use the Table
of Device Addresses to dete
rmine the appropriate address
for each device.
Deter
mine wire size usi
ng the Wire Run Chart.
Multiple devices can be daisy chained on a
single wire run.
For single wire runs you must determine the current drawn by all devices
on the run, then refer to the Wiring Run chart
to determine the maximum length that can be
safely used for each wire size.
TOTAL CURRENT DRAWN BY
ALL

SINGLE WIRE RUN

Wire Size 50 mA or less 100 mA 300 mA
500 mA 600 mA

#18 1500 ft (457m) 1100 ft (335m) 350 ft (107m) 220 ft (67m) 170 ft (52m)
#16 1500 ft (457m) 1500 ft (457m) 550 ft (168m) 350 ft (107m) 270 ft (82m)
The length of all wire runs for bo
th partit
ions combined must not ex
ceed 1500 feet

(457m)
when unshielded quad co
ndu
ctor cab
le is us
ed (750 feet
if shielded cable is used).

This
restriction is due to th
e capacitive effect on the data lines when quad cable is used.
Note: It is always a good idea to Home Run Supervised Dev
ices like RF Receivers and
LRR
whenever possible to prevent any Supervision problems from occurring.
588x Receiv
ers and 4204 Relay boards should be Home Ran.
Keypads an
d 4219 zone expanders can be daisy chained together on the same wire run
