The 2GIG SMKT8-345 offers smoke, heat and freeze detection for a 2GIG System, a Honeywell Lyric Controller or a 345 MHz Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus. It has a built-in photoelectric smoke detector, and its heat sensor activates upon detecting a temperature increase of 15°F or more in one minute.
Photoelectric smoke detectors are considered to be the most reliable smoke detectors available. These devices work using a small light that is housed inside the sensor. When smoke enters the detection chamber, the light will refract. The sensor will respond to the light refraction, and it will alert the system. The 2GIG SMKT8-345 utilizes an optical smoke detection chamber, making it more accurate in responding to fires than smoke detectors with conventional detection chambers. This detection chamber also makes the 2GIG SMKT8-345 more sensitive to synthetic smoke rather than natural cooking smoke. This makes false alarms less likely to occur.
For heat detection, the SMKT8-345 utilizes both fixed temperature detection and rate-of-rise detection. The sensor will trigger an alarm upon detecting a temperature increase of 15°F or higher in less than a minute. However, an alarm will only occur if this rapid temperature increase occurs when the fixed area temperature is 104°F or higher. This helps prevent false alarms that could otherwise occur due to rapid temperature increases from other sources. The sensor will also activate upon detecting a temperature of 135°F or higher, regardless of temperature increases.
As for low-temperature freeze detection, the sensor will activate upon detecting a temperature of 40°F. It will reset once the temperature reaches 45°F or higher. This is perfect for alerting users to a broken HVAC system that may cause the pipes to freeze. The 2GIG SMKT8-345 is designed to monitor and report on any excessive and extreme temperature variations that may occur. Please note that the sensor should only be used indoors to prevent any false alarms caused by low outdoor temperatures.
The 2GIG SMKT8-345 also offers a built-in 85 dB sounder for alerting building occupants to extreme conditions. The sounder will trigger upon detecting smoke or unusually high temperatures. At 90 dB the device is loud enough to alert everyone in a small to medium sized home or a small business. And if the sensor is programmed with your security system, then an alarm will be triggered as well. If your system is monitored by a central station, you can receive automatic emergency fire dispatch in most jurisdictions.
Note: Remember to test the sensor regularly to ensure proper operation.
