Is A 2GIG Edge Compatible w/ All 2GIG Smokes/Heats?
Yes, the 2GIG Edge is compatible with most 2GIG sensors, including all Smoke/Heat sensors made to this point. In addition, most burglary sensors are also compatible, except for some image sensors. This makes using your existing 2GIG sensors with a new 2GIG Edge panel a very smart choice.
Today's alarm panels really can do it all. The industry standard has become a sleek all-in-one system with a 7" touchscreen interface, Z-Wave Plus, support for encrypted wireless sensors, WIFI, and in many cases a built-in cellular communicator. The 2GIG Edge checks all these boxes. Another hallmark of modern panels is backward compatibility. Not only do they work with new sensors, most new systems also work with at least one legacy wireless protocol.
The benefit of backward compatibility is that it allows you to upgrade your alarm panel without needing to replace every wireless sensor. While the price tag for wireless sensors, much like the sensors themselves, has gotten smaller over the years, no one wants to replace working sensors unnecessarily, especially throughout an entire home or business.
In the early days of 2GIG, in particular when the 2GIG GC3 first came to market, there were compatibility issues between certain original 2GIG wireless sensors and the new 2GIG GC3 panel. These issues have been mostly resolved through 2GIG GC3 panel firmware updates. That has not been the case with the 2GIG Edge. There are no known compatibility issues between the 2GIG Edge and any of the older 2GIG 345 MHz sensors.
The 2GIG Edge supports all existing non-encrypted 2GIG 345 MHz sensors as well as 2GIG encrypted sensors in the eSeries 345 MHz and e+ Extended Range 900 MHz lineup. It also supports most Ademco, Honeywell, and Resideo 345 MHz 5800 Series sensors. While neither 2GIG nor we have tested every single 5800 Series sensor, our understanding is that all wireless peripherals in this line are supported, with the exception of keyfobs and bi-directional devices like the 5828 and 5828V wireless keypads.

Presumably the Honeywell 5808W3, and the 5800SMOKEV smoke, heat, and freeze detectors are also compatible. The Honeywell 5800COMBO and 5800CMBOV Smoke, Heat, and CO detectors are also likely compatible, though careful attention should be paid when programming to be sure all functions and loop numbers are properly configured.
Once any life-safety detector has been programmed it should be thoroughly and properly tested for accurate operation. Canned smoke and canned CO gas is useful in testing for proper function. The test button on each detector can be used to test for proper transmitting and programming, but this should not be substituted for functional testing.
The 2GIG Edge comes with both WIFI and cellular communicators built in. You can choose either an AT&T LTE cellular version or a Verizon LTE one. The only difference between these versions is the LTE cellular carrier. You should choose the version with the cellular communicator that will get the best signal in your monitored location, regardless of your cell phone's carrier.
Since the 2GIG Edge uses the Alarm.com platform, cellular communication is required. For Alarm Grid customers, this means that you must choose a monitoring plan that includes cellular service. That is the Gold Plan (Self or Full) or higher, or Cellular Alarm Monitoring. When you choose an Alarm Grid plan that includes cellular communication, WIFI communication is included at no additional cost. This allows you to use dual-path monitoring, which is the gold standard in alarm communication.
