The Honeywell Home T6 Pro Programmable Z-Wave Plus Thermostat offers enhanced battery life, range, and a host of other improvements over the original T6 Pro. It can support 3H/2C heat pump systems, or 2H/2C conventional systems. It can operate on battery power only, so if you have a system with no C-Wire connection available, the Honeywell Home T6 will work for you.
The T6 Pro comes with a UWP mounting system, cover plate, and mounting hardware along with the product literature. The UWP mounting system is where all the wires for your HVAC system will connect. Then, the T6 slides onto the mounting plate. It is always recommended that you have an HVAC professional service your HVAC system, but improvements in the manufacture of items like the T6 make replacing your own thermostat fairly simple. Be sure power has been removed from the HVAC system. Take a picture of the existing wiring before removing the existing thermostat. Match that wiring up with the new thermostat mounting system, slide the thermostat into place, and power back up.
In addition to its features as a thermostat, the Honeywell Home T6 Pro also has a Z-Wave Plus chip inside. This means that the thermostat can interface with a Z-Wave controller, allowing its operation to be controlled from anywhere. In addition, it can be automated based on schedules, or possibly on the status of other devices within the Z-Wave network. For example, if you have a security system with a Z-Wave controller, you could set up an automation so that when the system is armed in the Away mode, meaning no one will be left inside the home, the T6 Pro will revert to an "unoccupied" temperature, thus saving money on climate control when no one is home.
The Z-Wave Plus feature of the T6 is what really sets it apart from some other thermostats. With Z-Wave Plus, the T6 Pro will have an increased communication range as compared to non-plus Z-Wave devices. The battery life for Z-Wave Plus products is also improved. This is important for the T6 Pro because it does not require a C-Wire connection with the HVAC system. This means the T6 Pro can run completely on battery power. Z-Wave Plus devices have about 50% better battery life than original Z-Wave devices. That doesn't mean that you have to run the thermostat on battery power only. If your HVAC system offers a C-Wire connection, you should certainly use it. When connected to constant external power, the T6 can operate as a Z-Wave repeater, adding increased reliability to other Z-Wave devices that may be further from the Z-Wave controller than the thermostat.
Another feature of Z-Wave that has been added with Z-Wave Plus is SmartStart. With SmartStart, the Honeywell Home T6 Pro has a QR code that can be scanned by the Z-Wave Plus controller. After scanning, the T6 can then be installed, and when it powers up, it will automatically complete the inclusion process with the controller. This makes adding the T6 to your Z-Wave Network hassle-free. Encryption is also a feature that was first introduced with Z-Wave Plus devices. The Honeywell Home T6 Pro offers S2, 128-bit encryption of its wireless Z-Wave communication.
