The DSC PG9936 is a PowerG Smoke and Heat Detector that offers reliable fire detection for a home or business. This combination life-safety sensor features both a photoelectric smoke detector and a 135°F fixed temperature heat sensor. An 85 dB sounder alerts building occupants to the fire.
With dual-function smoke and heat detection, the PG9936 is more likely to respond quickly to a fire than a standalone smoke or heat sensor. The photoelectric technology used for smoke detection works very reliably, and it is accurate to reduce the likelihood of false alarms. Meanwhile, the heat detector activates upon sensing a temperature of 135°F or higher.
As a PowerG Sensor, the PG9936 operates at 915 MHz, and it works with any PowerG compatible system. This includes all versions of the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus and all versions of the DSC PowerSeries NEO with an added PowerG Wireless Receiver. Depending on the panel, the sensor can communicate from up to 2km away in an open air environment. All wireless communications for the sensor utilize military-grade 128-bit AES encryption for enhanced wireless security.
The PG9936 also utilizes one-go-all-go technology. This means that if one PowerG Smoke Detector is activated, all of the other PowerG Smokes Detectors also enrolled with the system will activate as well. This can be crucial for making sure that all building occupants are alerted to the fire. This feature is common among hardwired high-voltage smokes, but we're very pleased that it was included with the wireless PowerG Smoke Detectors as well.
Enrolling the PG9936 with your system is very important. This is the only way you will be able to receive text and/or email alerts from Alarm.com regarding any sensor activity. It is also the only way you can receive an automatic emergency response from a central station. Remember that you will need an appropriate monitoring plan to take advantage of these features. The PG9936 is enrolled by putting the panel into its auto-enrollment mode and powering on the sensor by inserting its batteries.
The PG9936 measures about 5 inches in diameter, and it is 2.5 inches deep. It uses three (3) AAA batteries for power, which come included. The typical battery life is three (3) years The sensor weighs 8.75 oz. It is for indoor user only. It includes a built-in 85 dB sounder. The device has a status LED light to assist with device enrollment and for displaying trouble conditions, such as maintenance. A maintenance condition means that the smoke detector sensing chamber needs to be cleaned. The LED light will also activate upon detecting smoke or high heat to provide a visible notification of a fire alarm. It also features a built-in tamper cover. Make sure to test the sensor regularly. A test button allows for easy testing of transmissions with the panel.
NOTE: The maximum range for a PowerG Sensor when used with an IQ Panel 2 Plus System is only 2,000 feet in open air. This is considerably less than the advertised 2km range. The 2km range refers to when a PowerG Sensor is used with a DSC PowerSeries NEO System.
