Adding a cellular communicator is perhaps the most important upgrade you can make for your alarm system. This is the single most reliable communication path available. If you rely strictly on a WIFI connection, then it's likely that the internet will go out at some point or another. Additionally, WIFI connectivity is prone to power outages. Cellular service will continue to work even when the power goes at. It is also not prone to sudden outages like internet connectivity.

The cellular communicators listed on this page all connect with the AT&T LTE Network. Most of our systems have either an AT&T LTE option or a Verizon LTE option available. End users should be aware that this has nothing to do with their personal cellular service provider. For example, you can certainly have a Verizon Phone and an alarm system with an AT&T Communicator. Really, you should use whichever service works better in your area. The cost will not change either way.

For Total Connect 2.0, cellular communication is technically optional. A Resideo Panel can access TC2 through an IP AlarmNet Communicator. However, upgrading to cellular is still a great idea due to the improved reliability. But for Alarm.com, a cellular communicator is usually required. Accessing the Alarm.com Servers is important for getting your system monitored by an alarm company. Any alarm signals will need to pass through the Alarm.com Servers before being forwarded to the central station and/or the end user.

The cellular communicators listed on this page are all LTE communicators. This is important to note because LTE represents the go-to option for any alarm system. Older 3G cellular networks are currently in the process of being discontinued. Once that happens, any alarm system that uses 3G communication will no longer be able to send out signals, unless it has an IP path established. In fact, 3G communicator activations are seldom allowed due to the fact that the networks will be shut down in the coming years. With an LTE communicator, you can rest easy in knowing that your system will remain monitored for many years to come.

By paring a cellular communicator with an IP communicator, you can achieve an ultra-dependable dual-path setup. Many panels already include a built-in WIFI card, so all you need to do is add a cellular communicator. Older panels may need an IP communicator to be added. There are also dual-path communicators that include IP and cellular connectivity all-in-one.
