Can I Change The Honeywell Vista 15P Prom Chip?

Yes. Total Connect 2.0 requires the Vista 15P control panel to be version 9.12 or higher. If the Vista 15P is older there is no need to replace the control panel, users can replace the prom chip located in the middle of the circuit board. The prom chip will have the version printed on it so it is easy to confirm the version of the Vista 15P. ** If the Vista 15P is very old and the chip reads WA15P-1.0, the panel will need to be replaced not just the prom chip. If the version is lower than 9.12 the panel or the prom chip will need to be upgraded. If choosing to replace the Vista 15P with a new panel, the wiring would need to be mapped over and completely reprogrammed. Replacing the prom chip to upgrade the Vista 15P control panel does not require to reprogram the system.

To replace the prom chip, disconnect all power to the Vista 15P by removing the battery first, then remove the transformer from the outlet. Static buildup can cause damage to the control panel. To avoid damage from static build up, briefly touch a chassis ground point in the control panel cabinet to discharge any possible static buildup. Also, replacing the prom chip while standing on a carpet should be avoided due to the increase of static. Carefully insert a paper clip or pin in either the upper right or lower left socket prying it up to remove the existing prom chip. Carefully replace the new prom chip with the beveled edge facing down towards socket arrow and the angled corner to the bottom right. Line up the pins and press straight down until the prom chip is seated firmly. Repower the Vista 15P control panel by first plugging in the transformer to the outlet, then reconnect the battery to the Vista 15P control panel battery’s terminals. After the system is powered up, the time and date will need to be reset and test the system to make sure it is communicating properly.

If the Vista 15P control panel was communicating via a gsm, the gsm will also need to be upgraded. Alarm Grid offers a gsm that includes a prom chip, GSMV4G-TC2 package for a lower price than purchasing them separately.
