Can I Receive Temperature Sensor Alerts from Alarm.com?

No, you cannot receive temperature sensor alerts from Alarm.com. The Alarm.com platform cannot receive high/low temperature alerts from a temperature sensor. But you can receive high/low temperature alerts from ADC if a compatible smart thermostat is used. A good thermostat is an ADC-T3000.

A temperature sensors is designed to alert a security system when the detected temperature reaches an unusually high or low level. The idea is that the temperature sensor will alert your system to a broken HVAC system so that you can take action before damage occurs (e.g. the pipes freezing). Some temperature sensors even allow you to set customized thresholds so that your system is alerted when the detected temperature goes outside a desired range.

You would think that a temperature sensor would be able to report to an interactive monitoring and automation platform just like any other compatible alarm system sensor. But an odd quirk with Alarm.com is that it cannot receive notifications from temperature sensors. This means that you cannot use a temperature sensor in combination with Alarm.com to receive a notification about an unusually high or low temperature while you are away. This is not the case with Total Connect 2.0, which can receive reports regarding a temperature sensor detecting an unusual temperature. TC2 can then send you a text and/or email alert regarding the unusually high or low temperature.

While this is inconvenient, there is still a way to receive text and/or alerts from Alarm.com regarding an unusually high or low temperature. If you use a compatible smart thermostat with Alarm.com, then you can have alerts sent out whenever the detected temperature goes outside a specified range. Alarm.com recommends using the ADC-T3000 as a Z-Wave thermostat for this application. Nearly any Alarm.com Security System will be able to support this thermostat. The ADC-T3000 can even be used with the ADC-S2000 Temperature Sensor if you also want to monitor the temperature in a second area of the building.
