Honeywell 5818MNL vs 5816OD

The Honeywell 5818MNL is a wireless, 1 zone recessed door transmitter. The 5818MNL is a magnetic contact sensor and after installation provides concealed protection. The 5818mnl has a tapered design and is nearly half the size of standard transmitters with dimensions of 3/4" Diameter and 3" Long, the magnet is 3/8" Diameter and 1/2" Long. The 5818MNL has 1 loop normally closed and must be programmed as loop 1. The magnet spacing gap is ½” maximum.

The Honeywell 5816OD is a wireless, 2 zone outdoor transmitter. The 5816OD is weatherproof and water resistant that provides excellent detection and performance in extreme temperatures. The 5816OD operates in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F - 150 degrees F. The 5816OD comes in a gray housing but can be painted using a paint for plastic so it can blend in on any surface. The dimensions of the 5816OD are Sensor: 2.01" W x 4.25" H x 1.4" D and the magnet dimensions are .89" W x 4.02" H x .92" D. The 5816OD has 2 loops, either one or both can be used. Loop 1, is normally closed for a hardwire contact. ( A Form C contact such as the 7945-2 must be used with all 3 wires connected. A 2-wire normally closed contact can be used, but a Form C contact is recommended to provide the best RF immunity against false alarms, and maximum stability in extremely cold environments). Loop 2, is the internal reed switch. The included magnet must be used to meet the specified gap rating of 1.9” on wood, 1.4” on steel (note: for wood and non-magnetic surfaces, the typical breaking gap is 1.36 inches. For steel and other magnetic surfaces, the typical breaking gap is 0.78 inches).

Both the 5818MNL and the 5816OD have RF transmitting range of 200 feet. They both are supervised transmitters, have RF supervision, and low battery detection. The 5816OD also has tamper detection which will send a signal to the control panel once the cover is removed.

The 5818MNL is recessed so it is flush mount and the 5816OD is a surface mount transmitter.

Whether a recessed transmitter or an outdoor transmitter is required, both the 5818MNL and the 5816OD will provide the protection/detection.
