How Do I Install A Honeywell GSMX4G On A Vista 20P?

The first plan of installation is to select a mounting location. Honeywell’s preferred location is to mount the GSMX4G on the Vista 20P control panel. However, if the Vista 20P control panel is installed in a basement or in an area that contains metal beams or objects a remote location will be needed for installation. Installing a GSMX4G cell communicator is not recommended to be installed in basements or around metal objects as it will interfere with signal strength. For the best signal strength, the GSMX4G should always be mounted vertically. Once the location is determined, test the GSMX4G for adequate signal strength. The sim card in the GSMX4G must be activated/registered to test for signal strength. The MAC and CRC numbers need to be provided to the alarm monitoring company to be activated/registered. The MAC and CRC numbers can be found on the side of the box the GSMX4G came in and inside the GSMX4G. To test for signal strength power up the GSMX4G temporarily by a 12V battery or by connecting it to the Vista 20P AUX PWR terminals. Connecting the GSMX4G to a 12V battery allows the cell communicator to be portable to find the strongest signal strength. To temporarily connect the GSMX4G to the Vista 20P control panel, make sure the panel is powered down, both the transformer removed from the outlet and the battery disconnected. Open the enclosure and connect the ECP cable to the GSMX4G. Connect the black and red wires to the GND and AUX PWR terminals of the Vista 20P control panel. Do NOT connect the yellow and green wires at this time. Power the Vista 20P up by replugging in the transformer and wait about 1 minute. Hold the GSMX4G in the position where it’s to be mounted and verify the signal strength by looking at the signal indicator LED lights located on the left side of the GSMX4G. A steady green light indicates satisfactory signal strength. A blinking light indicates marginal strength and no light indicates no signal and a new location is needed. Once there is a steady green light mark your mounting position and turn the power off by removing the transformer from the outlet and disconnect the battery, keep powered down until installation is completed.

Installing the GSMX4G on the control panel, remove the knockout on the top right side of the Vista 20P control panel metal box. Open the GSMX4G cover and remove the hole cap attached to the plastic trim and snap it into the top opening of the enclosure. On the bottom right hand side of the GSMX4G cover remove the knockout for the threaded mount. Install the threaded mount so it snaps into the plastic retaining tabs. Mount the GSMX4G on the cabinet’s knockout and fasten with the locking nut. Connect the ECP cable to the GSMX4G circuit board and thread the wires through the threaded mounting adapter.

Mounting the GSMX4G on a wall, remove the knockout on the top or side (whichever is suitable) of the Vista 20P control panel metal box. If wall wiring, remove the GSMX4G rear wiring access hole. If surface wiring, remove the GSMX4G bottom knockout to route the wires. Open the GSMX4G cover and remove the hole cap attached to the plastic trim and snap it into the top opening of the enclosure. Secure the enclosure by using the two mounting holes. Connect the ECP cable by splicing to a four wire extender cable and connect to the GSMX4G circuit board. Route the wires through the rear wiring access hole or bottom knockout of the GSMX4G to the Vista 20P control panel. Do not use the same knockout on the control panel that is being used for primary power. Secure wiring with ties if needed.
