Can I Use an Interlogix Simon XT w/o Monitoring?

Yes, you can use an Interlogix Simon XT without monitoring. However its functionality will be extremely limited. The system will only be able to function as a local sounder that can alert on-site users to an alarm. It will not be able to send outbound communication signals in any way.

Alarm monitoring refers to the service that allows an alarm system to send outbound alerts and signals. Depending on the user's monitoring plan, these alerts and signals can be sent to a central monitoring station or directly to the user via text and/or email alerts. If the user receives central station monitoring, then an operator can verify the alarm, then send out an emergency response to the location. But if the user only has a self-monitoring plan, then they must contact any emergency help on their own.

However, if the user does not have an alarm monitoring plan, then the panel will not be able to send out any type of alert. This means that unless the user is on-site to hear a local sounder or siren, they will have no way of knowing that an alarm has occurred. Also, no central station will be alerted. In other words, if the user is off-site, then it is very unlikely that any help will be sent out to the location during an emergency.

If a user is almost always on-site with their system, then having no monitoring may be a feasible option. A local sounder or siren can still alert them to a possibly dangerous situation and they can then take appropriate action. But the user must realize that whenever they leave the location, the property will be left completely unprotected. There will be no way of immediately alerting any authorities in the event of a burglary or a fire. So if a user doesn't plan on constantly being near their Simon XT System, we strongly encourage them to obtain a monitoring plan. This will ensure that they are always protected.
