Can I Use Motion Sensors on a DSC Impassa?

Yes, you can use motion sensors on a DSC Impassa. Most users will use wireless motion sensors that operate at 433 MHz. These motion sensors can readily interface with the system. It is also possible to use hardwired motion sensors with a compatible wired to wireless converter device.

The DSC Impassa has a built-in wireless receiver that accepts sensors at the 433 MHz frequency. The legacy DSC Sensors operate at this frequency, and they can be readily used with the system. We generally recommend using these motion sensors with the DSC Impassa. The motion detectors from the legacy DSC Sensor lineup include the DSC WLS914-433 and the DSC WS4904P. Any wireless motion sensor that is used with the DSC Impassa will need to use at least one of the system's 64 wireless zones. Make sure to keep this in mind when planning zones.

It is also possible to use hardwired motion detectors with the DSC Impassa. To do this, you will need a compatible wired to wireless converter. The hardwired motion will connect directly with the converter. From there, the converter will send a wireless signal to the DSC Impassa on the behalf of the hardwired motion. The hardwired motion will take up one of the 64 wireless zones on the DSC Impassa. A compatible wired to wireless converter to use with the DSC Impassa Alarm System is the Resolution Products RE508X.

Remember, any motion detector that is used with the DSC Impassa will need to be programmed, and it will require at least one of the system's 64 wireless zones. If you are using a wireless motion, make sure that it operates at 433 MHz. Wireless motion sensors that do not operate at 433 MHz will not work with the system. This includes the DSC PowerG Sensors. These sensors operate at 915 MHz. Even though they are also manufactured by DSC, they will not work with the Impassa.
