Does an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 Support Partitions?
No, an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 does not support partitions. These are both single-partition systems. There is no way to assign different access levels to the different user codes set up with these panels. To use partitions, a user must upgrade to a different type of alarm system.
When one discusses partitioning with an alarm system, they are referring to the idea of sectioning off the system. By doing this, not every system zone is affected when a single partition is armed or disarmed. For instance, if an entire system is disarmed and then partition 1 is armed, partition 2 may still remain disarmed.
The access level for a user code determines whether or not it can be used to control a particular system partition. In most cases, the access levels assigned to the various system user codes are managed by the master user through the Master Code. By doing this, each code will only be provided with access to the necessary parts of the system. So if a user code only has access to partition 2 and they try to disarm partition 1, it will not work.
However, the Simon XTi and XTi-5 Systems do not support multiple partitions. Additionally, there is no way to assign different access levels to user codes. All of the eight system user codes will have the same authority. Even the system Master Code has the same authority with regard to arming and disarming the system. Furthermore, any security sensor that is programmed with the system will not be assigned to a partition.
For users who want to use partitions, it is necessary to upgrade to a different alarm system. Most of the higher-end wired or hybrid alarm systems will provide some type of partition support. Panels that are designed for commercial use, such as the Honeywell VISTA 128BPT, are known in particular for supporting a large number of different partitions. However, it is very important to check the partition support for the panel before making a purchasing decision.
