How Do I Add A WIFI Thermostat to Total Connect 2.0?

Honeywell Total Connect Comfort and Carrier WIFI thermostats are currently compatible with Total Connect 2.0. Once a compatible thermostat is installed and configured for WIFI access on the manufacturer's site, log into TC2, go to Devices > Manage Devices, and provide the login information.

All compatible WIFI thermostats use a server-to-server integration to work with Total Connect 2.0. You install and configure the WIFI thermostat based on the instructions provided with it. You connect it to your WIFI network and configure it to use the manufacturer's WIFI platform. Then, you access Total Connect 2.0 and provide the login credentials you created for the thermostat. TC2 then accesses the thermostat manufacturer's platform when you request to control the thermostat. The major benefit is that you can control the thermostat at the same time you're controlling your security system and any other automation devices, without having to log into multiple apps.

Any WIFI or Redlink thermostat that can be controlled using Honeywell's Total Connect Comfort app can also be manually controlled using Total Connect 2.0, once set up. The same is true for any Carrier-branded thermostat. If it can be controlled through their customer portal, it can also be controlled through TC2.

Adding a WIFI thermostat to Total Connect 2.0:

  1. Configure per the manufacturer. Install the thermostat per the manufacturer's instructions. Alarm Grid always recommends using a qualified HVAC technician for this step. Once the thermostat is physically installed, follow the manufacturer's instructions for connecting it to your WIFI network and setting up an online account for access through their online portal. This will be either Total Connect Comfort if the thermostat is a Honeywell, Redlink, or Carrier. Be sure you can access and control the thermostat through their portal before continuing to the next step.
  2. Add thermostat to Total Connect 2.0. Log into TC2 via either the mobile app or the website. On the website, go to Devices > Manage Devices. In the app, go to Devices > click the three vertical dots icon in the upper right, then Add/Remove Devices.

    As seen through the website:

    As seen through the app:

Once you get to the Add/Remove screen, the process is the same for both the website and the app. You'll see a list of partner companies that offer integration with Total Connect 2.0. You may have to scroll down to see the full list. Choose either Honeywell Total Connect Comfort, or Carrier.

The next screen you see will give you the option to set up a new thermostat or add an existing one. If you're following this FAQ, you will choose the option to Add Existing Thermostat. If you choose Setup New Thermostat, you'll be taken to the manufacturer's app to go through their setup process. If you haven't yet installed their app, you'll be taken to the iOS or Android App store to download it. Then you'll need to go through the process to create an account for access to your thermostat.

When you click on Setup Existing Thermostat you'll be prompted to enter the Username and Password for the thermostat manufacturer's online portal. This is the same username and password you should have created in Step 1 above. Once you enter the correct information, you'll be logged in and will need to select the thermostat you want to access. If you have multiple thermostats configured, you'll be able to choose which ones you want to show up in Total Connect 2.0 for this account. Once this process is completed, you'll be able to manually control your thermostat or thermostats from within the TC2 Devices page.
